2025/26 Atletico Madrid schedule – Key dates
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Atletico Madrid schedule for the 2025/26 season has been confirmed, meaning fans of the club can now start planning for the new campaign. Diego Simeone’s squad are currently on their summer break following an early exit at the Club World Cup, but they’ll be back in competitive action in August.

Here’s a look at everything the 2025/26 campaign has in store for Los Rojiblancos. Visitors to the Spanish capital looking to catch a piece of the action usually won’t have much trouble securing tickets for Atletico Madrid matches, although some of the bigger games on their schedule may sell out.

2025/26 Atletico Madrid schedule – Month by month

August 2025 – LaLiga begins with a trip to the RCDE Stadium

DateCompetitionFixtureSaturday August 9thFriendlyNewcastle vs Atletico MadridAugust 16th/17thLaLigaEspanyol vs Atletico MadridAugust 23rd/24thLaLigaAtletico Madrid vs ElcheAugust 30th/31stLaLigaAlaves vs Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid are one of a number of Spanish clubs playing pre-season games in England. They will be at St James’ Park on the second Saturday in August to take on Newcastle United in what is currently their only pre-season fixture given their late return to training following the Club World Cup.

LaLiga kicks off the following week. Atleti begin with a trip to Espanyol and while we don’t have confirmed kick-off dates or times for any LaLiga matches at the time of writing, it’s likely to be one of the later games scheduled on the opening matchday, with both Atletico and Real Madrid keen to start as late as possible following their commitments in the US earlier this summer.

The first match at the Estadio Metropolitano will be the visit of newly-promoted Elche, while Simeone takes his team to Vitoria to round off the month.

September 2025 – Los Blancos visit the Metropolitano

DateCompetitionFixtureSeptember 13th/14thLaLigaAtletico Madrid vs VillarrealSeptember 16th-18thChampions LeagueLeague phase matchday 1September 21st/22ndLaLigaMallorca vs Atletico MadridSeptember 23rd-25thLaLigaAtletico Madrid vs Rayo VallecanoSeptember 27th/28thLaLigaAtletico Madrid vs Real MadridSeptember 30th/October 1stChampions LeagueLeague phase matchday 2

September will see the first of three confirmed Madrid derbies in the 2025/26 season. It’ll take place at the Metropolitano at the end of a month which will also see Atleti play three other games in LaLiga.

The Champions League also kicks off this month. Atleti will be in pot two when the league phase draw takes place in Monaco and that will determine their eight opponents in the first part of the competition which runs from September to January.

October 2025 – Two tricky away games

DateCompetitionFixtureOctober 4th/5thLaLigaCelta Vigo vs Atletico MadridOctober 18th/19thLaLigaAtletico Madrid vs OsasunaOctober 21st/22ndChampions LeagueLeague phase matchday 3October 25th/26thLaLigaReal Betis vs Atletico Madrid

There are only four games scheduled for Atletico Madrid in October due to the international break, but that includes two tough away games in LaLiga. They travel to Balaidos to take on Celta Vigo at the start of the month, and round it off with a match at La Cartuja against Real Betis.

November 2025 – UCL league phase passes the halfway mark

DateCompetitionFixtureNovember 1st/2ndLaLigaAtletico Madrid vs SevillaNovember 4th/5thChampions LeagueLeague phase matchday 4November 8th/9thLaLigaAtletico Madrid vs LevanteNovember 22nd/23rdLaLigaGetafe vs Atletico MadridNovember 25th/26thChampions LeagueLeague phase matchday 5November 29th/30thLaLigaAtletico Madrid vs Real Oviedo

November is one of the more favourable months on the Atletico Madrid calendar, with three very winnable home fixtures in LaLiga, although they do also head to the Coliseum where they suffered a damaging defeat against Getafe last season.

Atleti will also play two more Champions League matches this month as the league phase passes the halfway point.

December 2025 – The finale of a very busy year

DateCompetitionFixtureDecember 6th/7thLaLigaAthletic Club vs Atletico MadridDecember 9th/10thChampions LeagueLeague phase matchday 6December 13th/14thLaLigaAtletico Madrid vs ValenciaDecember 16th-18thCopa del Rey3rd roundDecember 20th/21stLaLigaGirona vs Atletico Madrid

While there was ultimately disappointment in every competition, 2025 has been one of the busiest in the club’s history, and the Atletico Madrid squad will likely be looking forward to a short winter break by December.

First they’ll need to negotiate five more matches, including a tough trip to San Mames in LaLiga, another Champions League fixture and the start of their Copa del Rey campaign which will see Los Rojiblancos travel away to a lower-league club.

January 2026 – A trip to Saudi and action on four fronts

DateCompetitionFixtureJanuary 3rd/4thLaLigaReal Sociedad vs Atletico MadridJanuary 7th/8thSupercopaAtletico Madrid vs Real MadridSunday January 11th*SupercopaPossible finalJanuary 13th-15th*Copa del ReyPossible round-of-16January 17th/18thLaLigaAtletico Madrid vs AlavesJanuary 20th/21stChampions LeagueLeague phase matchday 7January 24th/25thLaLigaAtletico Madrid vs MallorcaWednesday January 28thChampions LeagueLeague phase matchday 8January 31st/February 1stLaLigaLevante vs Atletico Madrid
*Depends on progress in competition.

Assuming they don’t fall at the first hurdle in the Copa del Rey, Atleti will play football in four different competitions in January, including the Supercopa in Saudi Arabia which will see them take on city rivals Real in a semi-final.

There’s also a testing trip to Real Sociedad in LaLiga to start 2026, while the league phase of the Champions League concludes with the final two matchdays taking place in successive weeks in late January. Atleti will be hungry for another top-eight finish which would ensure they don’t have to play the play-off round in February.

They are also provisionally scheduled to play Barcelona in LaLiga on the weekend of January 10th/11th, but that fixture will be moved to another date due to the Supercopa.

February 2026 – Up to four cup fixtures possible

DateCompetitionFixtureFebruary 3rd-5th*Copa del ReyPossible quarter-finalFebruary 7th/8thLaLigaAtletico Madrid vs Real BetisFebruary 10th-12th*Copa del ReyPossible semi-final 1st legFebruary 14th/15thLaLigaRayo Vallecano vs Atletico MadridFebruary 17th/18th*Champions LeaguePossible play-off 1st legFebruary 21st/22ndLaLigaAtletico Madrid vs EspanyolFebruary 24th/25th*Champions LeaguePossible play-off 2nd legFebruary 28th/March 1stLaLigaReal Oviedo vs Atletico Madrid

The European and Spanish football schedule allows little room for a breather in 2026 for the top clubs, although their February fixture list will depend largely on how Atletico are going in the Champions League and Copa del Rey.

Aside from their regular league commitments, they’d need to play four matches across those competitions this month if they end up progressing in the Copa and finish between 9th and 24th in the league phase of the Champions League.

March 2026 – A crucial month

DateCompetitionFixtureMarch 3rd-5th*Copa del ReyPossible semi-final 2nd legMarch 7th/8thLaLigaAtletico Madrid vs Real SociedadMarch 10th/11th*Champions LeaguePossible round-of-16 1st legMarch 14th/15thLaLigaAtletico Madrid vs GetafeMarch 17th/18th*Champions LeaguePossible round-of-16 2nd legMarch 21st/22ndLaLigaReal Madrid vs Atletico Madrid

This is about the time when Atletico’s promising 2024/25 campaign started to unravel and March 2026 will again see them play some key matches including the second Madrid derby of the season in LaLiga at the Bernabeu.

There’s also the likelihood of a two-legged tie in the Champions League round-of-16, the stage of their controversial exit against Real Madrid last season.

If they progress in the Copa del Rey, Atleti could also have a semi-final 2nd leg at the beginning of the month in that competition as they bid to secure a trip to Seville where the final will again be held in April.

April 2026 – Barca visit the Metropolitano

DateCompetitionFixtureApril 4th/5thLaLigaAtletico Madrid vs BarcelonaApril 7th/8th*Champions LeaguePossible quarter-final 1st legApril 11th/12thLaLigaSevilla vs Atletico MadridApril 14th/15th*Champions LeaguePossible quarter-final 2nd legApril 18th/19thLaLigaAtletico Madrid vs Athletic ClubApril 21st-23rdLaLigaElche vs Atletico MadridSaturday April 25th*Copa del ReyPossible finalApril 28th/29th*Champions LeaguePossible semi-final 1st leg

Atletico play Real Madrid and Barcelona in back-to-back LaLiga matchdays in the spring, although the fixtures will be separated by a fortnight due to the international break. Those games will have a big say in whether they are still involved in the title race heading into the final eight matches.

It’s possible they could have no cup distractions left by this point, but should they keep progressing, Atleti would play three Champions League fixtures in April, while the Copa del Rey final will take place at La Cartuja on Saturday April 25th.

May 2026 – Atleti’s LaLiga campaign ends at the Ceramica

DateCompetitionFixtureMay 2nd/3rdLaLigaValencia vs Atletico MadridMay 5th/6th*Champions LeaguePossible semi-final 2nd legMay 9th/10thLaLigaAtletico Madrid vs Celta VigoMay 12th-14thLaLigaOsasuna vs Atletico MadridMay 16th/17thLaLigaAtletico Madrid vs GironaMay 23rd/24thLaLigaVillarreal vs Atletico MadridSaturday May 30th*Champions LeaguePossible final

The Atletico Madrid key dates in May could include two huge Champions League nights if they are still in that competition, but it’s perhaps more likely that they will only have LaLiga commitments to worry about by this point.

The month starts with a trip to Mestalla, while Celta Vigo and Girona are the final two visitors to the Metropolitano. Their final league game is a difficult one, away to Villarreal.

Anyone planning to travel to Spain to catch Atletico Madrid in action during the 2025/26 season should be aware that regular weekend LaLiga fixtures can in theory take place at any point between Friday and Monday nights. Atleti are normally scheduled to play on Saturdays or Sundays, but confirmation of kick-off times from LaLiga only tends to come a few weeks in advance.

Tickets for their home games can be purchased via Atletico Madrid’s official website. More advanced ticket-and-hotel package bookings are also possible via providers such as sportsbreaks.com and footballtravel.com.
