Atletico Madrid ended 2024 on a very positive note with a long winning run that has extended into the new year. 2025 is shaping up to be the club’s busiest ever calendar year with a summer FIFA Club World Cup meaning there is little break on the Atletico Madrid schedule.

Here’s a look at everything 2025 has in store for Los Rojiblancos, with Diego Simeone’s side targeting domestic, continental and intercontinental silverware.

Visitors to the Spanish capital looking to catch a piece of the action, usually won’t have much trouble securing tickets for Atletico Madrid matches. However the bigger league and Champions League fixtures in 2025 may sell out, so be quick to book your tickets for those games.

2025 Atletico Madrid Madrid schedule – Month by month

January 2025 – UCL league phase concludes

January will see seven Atletico Madrid games take place, across three different competitions.

They set a new club record 14 game winning streak with victory over Osasuna in LaLiga, and will also face Leganes and Villarreal in the Spanish top flight before the month concludes.

In the cups, Simeone’s men will be targeting a place in the last eight of the Copa del Rey when they travel to second tier Elche. The Champions League will be a bigger focus this month though, with Atleti potentially needing to win their two final league phase games to secure a top eight finish and avoid having to play a play-off round tie in February.

February 2025 – A derby date at the Bernabeu

Should Atleti miss out on the top eight in the UCL league phase, they’ll have a play-off tie in the middle of February in that competition.

Los Rojiblancos will also be hoping to progress into the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey, while February sees them play four league games. The pick of those matches is unquestionably the Madrid derby which takes place at the Santiago Bernabeu on the weekend of February 8th/9th, with the exact date and kick-off time due to be announced soon.

March 2025 – Barca visit in key league showdown

Another key date on the Atleti schedule will be the weekend of 15th/16th March when Barcelona visit the Estadio Metropolitano in LaLiga. Atletico were 2-1 winners in the reverse fixture in December to catapult themselves into title contention, and they’ll be hoping to be still firmly in the race by the time this fixture rolls around.

Also in March, the club will likely be in Champions League round-of-16 action with the two legs set to take place in the weeks of March 3rd and March 10th. Should they finish in the top eight in the league phase, Atleti will be at home for the 2nd leg, while they’ll be at home first if they end up progressing via the play-off round.

April 2025 – Atleti gunning for cup glory

April could be the busiest month of the year, or it could be a relatively quiet one, with much depending on how much progress the club makes in the Copa del Rey and Champions League.

The final of the former takes place in Seville on Saturday April 26th. Los Rojiblancos haven’t reached a Copa del Rey final since they memorably beat Real Madrid at the Bernabeu in the 2012/13 season. They’ll also be eyeing up a first Champions League semi-final in eight years this month.

Meanwhile in LaLiga, the title race should be firmly in full swing by now. Atleti have a fairly favourable run of league games this month, although the trip to Sevilla on the first weekend of April may be a tricky one.

May 2025 – Can Simeone’s side reign in Spain again?

Atleti will be hoping to be in the race for their third Spanish title in the Simeone era in May 2025. They last finished 1st in LaLiga in 2021, but a campaign that was severely impacted by the pandemic meant they didn’t really get the chance to celebrate it with their fans.

This season’s title race could go all the way to the final weekend. Atleti have a tough trip to Girona which could determine their fate, meanwhile Real Madrid finish at home to Real Sociedad, with Barcelona in Bilbao to take on Athletic Club.

While they aren’t seen as one of the favourites to go all the way in the Champions League, that won’t stop Atletico fans dreaming of a trip to Munich at the end of the month when the 2024/25 European champions will be crowned.

June 2025 – Los Rojiblancos head to the US

The Atletico Madrid key dates for 2025 includes a trip into slightly uncharted territory, with the club involved in the FIFA Club World Cup for the first time ever.

The newly expanded 32-team tournament will take place in the United States. Atleti, one of two Spanish participants, are in Group B, and they start their campaign with a tough game against PSG at the iconic Rose Bowl in Pasadena which hosted the 1994 World Cup final.

They then face MLS side Seattle Sounders in their own stadium, before returning to the Rose Bowl for a date with Brazilian outfit Botafogo. Should they progress, Atleti will also play their round-of-16 game before the end of the month in either Philadelphia or Atlanta.

July 2025 – Expanded FIFA Club World Cup concludes

Progress into the quarter-finals and Atletico would stay put in their round-of-16 city for a last eight showdown. The tournament concludes with the semi-finals and final all taking place at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

If they advance all the way, Atleti’s 2024/25 season will not end until Sunday July 13th.

August 2025 – The new season starts in Spain

Given the nature of their summer, it’s likely to be a shorter pre-season than normal for Simeone and his team. They are likely to play a few friendlies in early August, before kicking off the new LaLiga campaign in the middle of the month.

The weekend of August 16th/17th is expected to be when LaLiga 2025/26 gets going, although the opening matchday could be staggered again. Club World Cup participants Atletico and Real Madrid may be more likely to be scheduled to play their first matches on Sunday August 17th or Monday August 18th, although that will be confirmed in due course.

September 2025 – Another Champions League campaign kicks off

September is a great time to visit Madrid as a football fan, with warm, sunny weather, but slightly cooler temperatures than the searing heat that grips the city in August.

If you’re hoping to catch a LaLiga game, you’ll want to avoid the first weekend of the month which coincides with the international break. There should be full LaLiga fixture lists on every other weekend, although we won’t know when Atleti are at home, or who they are playing, until the new season schedule is released during the summer break.

The month will also see the Champions League return with the first matches in the league phase set to take place between September 16th and September 18th.

October 2025 – LaLiga starting to heat up

There’ll be more league and Champions League action for Atletico Madrid in October, on the assumption that they qualify for the latter by finishing in the top four of LaLiga 2024/25.

It’s possible that Atleti could also have a Copa del Rey first round tie this month, although they’ll receive a bye into the third round should they qualify for the Supercopa which will take place in Saudi Arabia in January 2026.

November 2025 – Two UCL matchdays

November 2025 is expected to see matchdays four and five take place in the league phase of the Champions League. The competition will follow the same format as during the 2024/25 season which featured big changes to the so-called “Swiss model”.

The third international break of the season will also take place, with LaLiga pausing on the weekend of November 15th/16th.

December 2025 – Atleti’s busiest year ends

With the potential for competitive games in every single month, 2025 will in many respects be Atletico Madrid’s busiest ever year, with a relentless schedule affording their players little break.

It is expected to conclude on the weekend of December 20th/21st with a final league fixture of the calendar year before a brief festive break. LaLiga 2025/26 will be almost halfway through by that point.
