Spanish giants Real Madrid confirm Trent Alexander-Arnold’s new squad number ahead of the Club World Cup in the USA.
Real Madrid have confirmed that Trent Alexander-Arnold will wear the number 12 shirt.
Alexander-Arnold is preparing to start the next stage of his career after making the difficult decision to leave his boyhood club, Liverpool.
The defender’s Liverpool contract was set to expire at the end of June, but the Reds have allowed him to leave his deal early after Real Madrid agreed to pay a £10m fee.
As a result, the England international is free to feature for Xabi Alonso’s side at the Club World Cup in the USA.
However, Alexander-Arnold will not don the number 66, which he has worn in club football since breaking into the Liverpool first team in 2016.
Real Madrid confirm Trent shirt number
As per La Liga rules, first-team players must wear shirt numbers ranging from one to 25, meaning the 66 shirt is off limits for Alexander-Arnold.
However, the right-back appears to have got round the issue by adding six and six together to get his new Real Madrid number.
The Spanish giants have confirmed that Alexander-Arnold will wear the number 12 shirt, starting at the expanded 32-team Club World Cup.
The 26-year-old will wear a number that has previously been worn by teammate Eduardo Camavinga and Real Madrid icon Marcelo, who won six La Liga titles and five Champions League trophies during his time at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Trent or Alexander-Arnold?
Alexander-Arnold is set to be officially unveiled as a Real Madrid player at a presentation ceremony on Thursday.
There is also the expectation that the name on the back of his shirt will read ‘Trent’ rather than his surname of ‘Alexander-Arnold.
The defender could don his new-look shirt and make his debut as a Real Madrid player in next Wednesday’s group opener against Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal.
Los Blancos will then wrap up the Club World Cup group phase with games against Mexico’s Pachuca and Red Bull Salzburg of Austria.
