Big decisions made: Real Madrid duo ‘in line’ for new

Real Madrid duo Brahim Diaz and Raul Asencio are reportedly both set to sign new contracts at Bernabeu.

Real Madrid duo Brahim Diaz and Raul Asencio are reportedly both set to sign new contracts at Bernabeu, with speculation that the pair could leave this summer thought to be wide of the mark.

Diaz only played 103 minutes of football at the 2025 Club World Cup, including a late substitute appearance against Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals of the competition.

Asencio, meanwhile, featured for 121 minutes at the summer tournament, but he struggled to show his best form, and his performance against PSG in the final four was heavily criticised.

It had been claimed that Asencio could be on his way out of the club this summer, with new head coach Xabi Alonso said to have been hugely disappointed with his performances at the Club World Cup.

Diaz, meanwhile, has also been linked with a departure of late, as the Morocco international could find it difficult to secure regular minutes next season due to the signing of Franco Mastantuono.

Diaz, Asencio ‘in line’ for new Real Madrid deals

However, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, both Brahim and Asencio are set to pen new deals.

Romano claims that Asencio’s fresh contract is likely to run until June 2031, with the club still having full faith in him despite his underwhelming displays at the summer tournament.

Asencio has made 46 appearances for Real Madrid in all competitions, and he proved to be a vital player for Los Blancos last term due to the team’s injury problems in the middle of their defence.

Brahim, meanwhile, made 52 appearances for the capital giants last term, scoring six goals and registering seven assists, proving to be a valuable player for Carlo Ancelotti’s side once again.

Courtois ‘agrees’ new Real Madrid contract

According to The Athletic, Thibaut Courtois has also agreed a new contract with Real Madrid; the Belgian is said to have been given a pay increase, with his deal being extended until June 2027.

The 33-year-old’s previous deal was due to expire in June 2026, but he remains one of the best goalkeepers in world football, and Real Madrid have seemingly moved to end slight rumours that he could leave next year.

Real Madrid are currently on a break following the Club World Cup, but the team are due to begin their 2025-26 La Liga campaign with a contest against Osasuna on August 19.
