Man United still in the race to sign €50m-rated Ruben Amorim favourite

Manchester United remain in the race for the potential transfer of Sporting Lisbon central midfielder Morten Hjulmand, CaughtOffside understands.

Well-connected sources have informed us that Man Utd manager Ruben Amorim is keen to work with his former player again, despite being up against Juventus in the race for his signature.

Although Hjulmand is understood to have agreed personal terms with Juve, sources insist that the Red Devils are not out of the race just yet.

The issue with the Denmark international’s potential move to Juventus is that the Serie A giants remain some way away from agreeing a fee with Sporting.

Hjulmand has a release clause worth €80m in his Sporting contract, though it’s understood that he could move for more like €50m this summer.

Juventus, however, are currently unwilling to go over €40m, which could allow United back into the race for the 26-year-old’s signature.

The Amorim connection could also be key, even if Hjulmand has for now prioritised a move to Turin.

CaughtOffside understands that there has also been some interest from other top clubs such as Barcelona, Inter Milan and Tottenham, while Arsenal at one point considered him before pressing on with deals for Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard.

Will United pay up for Hjulmand transfer?

It remains to be seen if MUFC will be able to meet Sporting’s demands for Hjulmand, as they will need to make player sales first.

Hjulmand looks like he could be a superb signing for United’s midfield, but the club have already spent big on Matheus Cunha, and are also set to invest a lot in the Bryan Mbeumo deal, which is close to completion.

It is therefore likely that the likes of Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Antony and Marcus Rashford will have to be sold before further signings can go ahead.
