One of the biggest transfer sagas of the summer surrounds the future of Luis Diaz. The Liverpool winger has attracted serious interest from both Barcelona and Bayern Munich – and the Colombian has reportedly made his choice: he wants a move to Germany.

According to ESPN, Diaz is determined to join Bayern Munich ahead of the 2025-26 season and hopes that Liverpool will accept a fresh proposal. Last week, the Reds rejected a €67.5m (£57.2m) offer from the Bavarian side.

With Marcus Rashford now expected to join Barcelona on loan from Manchester United – including a €30m (£25.4m) option to buy – the La Liga side are no longer seen as the most likely destination for the 28-year-old Liverpool man.

Bayern make Diaz a top priority

Eager to bolster their squad ahead of next season, Bayern have made no secret of their desire to sign a high-profile winger. Diaz has now emerged as their main target to join Vincent Kompany’s new-look side.

Before turning to Diaz, Bayern had expressed interest in Nico Williams of Athletic Bilbao, only to see the Spain international sign a new long-term deal until 2035. Having once again lost out to Barcelona, Bayern are now fully focused on Liverpool’s No. 7.

However, the Reds are not expected to make his departure easy. Diaz remains firmly in Arne Slot’s plans and is under contract until June 2027.

Despite this, Bayern are reportedly preparing an improved bid of €70m (£59.4m), plus performance-related bonuses, in an attempt to prise the Colombian away from Anfield.

Diaz is coming off the back of his best season in a Liverpool shirt, having played a key role in the club’s 2024-25 Premier League title triumph. His strong form is one of the main reasons the Reds are reluctant to sanction a move to the Allianz Arena.

While they remain firm over Diaz, Liverpool have already moved to strengthen their attack with the signing of Hugo Ekitike. The French forward impressed last season at Eintracht Frankfurt, prompting the Reds to spend €90m (£76.3m) to secure his services.

The 23-year-old has signed a long-term deal at Anfield until June 2031.

Meanwhile, Darwin Nunez could be on his way out. The Uruguayan has struggled to establish himself at Liverpool, who are now reportedly open to offers for the 25-year-old in the coming weeks.
