Atletico Madrid reportedly consider making an attempt to bring Manchester United attacker Alejandro Garnacho back to the club this summer.
Atletico Madrid are reportedly considering making an attempt to bring Manchester United attacker Alejandro Garnacho back to the club during this summer’s transfer window.
Garnacho started his academy career with Getafe before making the move to Atletico, representing the Red and Whites at youth level between 2015 and 2020.
The forward joined Man United in October 2020, and he progressed to first-team level in 2022, with the Argentina international currently on 26 goals and 22 assists in 144 appearances for his English club in all competitions.
Last season, the 21-year-old scored 11 goals and registered 10 assists in 58 appearances, but he fell out with head coach Ruben Amorim following the Europa League final.
Garnacho is not currently involved with Man United, with the forward training away from the first team at Carrington, while he was left out of their tour squad for the pre-season games in the United States.
Atletico ‘considering re-signing Garnacho’
The attacker is believed to be keen to remain in the Premier League, with Aston Villa, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur all credited with an interest, while Napoli and Bayern Munich are also thought to be in the mix.
According to Fichajes, Atletico are very much in the running, with Diego Simeone’s side giving serious consideration to re-signing the forward during this summer’s transfer window.
The report claims that Simeone views Garnacho, who could be available for a fee in the region of £40m this summer, as ‘the final piece of the offensive puzzle’.
Amorim: ‘Garnacho could return to Man United squad’
Man United head coach Ruben Amorim insisted during Friday’s press conference that Garnacho, in addition to Jadon Sancho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia, will only be allowed to leave this summer if their valuations are met.
As a result, a return to the Red Devils squad for Garnacho has not been ruled out despite his issues with Amorim.
“There are different reasons for the players,” Amorim told reporters. “Some players have to find a new place to have more space in the team and other players clearly show they want a new challenge and want new teams. We are just allowing these players to have time to think and to decide.
“If we reach a point where they have to join the team, they will join the team because they are our players. I know for a fact, these people, Omar [Berrada], Jason [Wilcox] and the club, have a number for these players. If they don’t reach that, they will be Manchester United players, no doubt about that.
“I understand that clubs are waiting for the last minute but they can have a surprise. I’m ready to receive the players, they have more competition, more competition. If you want to play in the World Cup next year you need to play.”
Garnacho has a contract at Old Trafford until the summer of 2028, having penned a new five-year contract with the 20-time English champions in April 2023.
