‘Rodrygo’s preferred destination’ revealed as Arteta
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Real Madrid winger Rodrygo is said to be a target of both Arsenal and Liverpool, and a report claims that the winger prefers one club over the other.

Real Madrid winger Rodrygo has reportedly decided that he would prefer to play for Liverpool over Arsenal if he was to leave Spain.

The Brazilian is said to have been subject of interest from both the Reds and the Gunners, who are likely to battle for the Premier League title this season.

Rodrygo’s place in the Real squad is under threat considering both Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior both prefer to operate in his favoured left-sided role.

Los Blancos boss Xabi Alonso is also yet to show faith in the 24-year-old, with the manager only starting him once in this summer’s Club World Cup.

ESPN report that while Rodrygo would like to stay in Spain with Real, he would prefer Liverpool over Arsenal if he was forced to move.

Do Arne Slot and Liverpool need Rodrygo to retain the Premier League title?

Liverpool began their Premier League title defence with a victory on Friday against Bournemouth, winning 4-2 at Anfield thanks to goals from Hugo Ekitike, Cody Gakpo, Federico Chiesa and Mohamed Salah.

Arne Slot’s side looked formidable in attack, and given his team looked vulnerable during counter-attacks, perhaps the Merseysiders would be wise to make defensive additions.

It should be noted that Chiesa has been linked with a move away, and his exit from the club would leave the Reds with just one senior left-winger, right-winger and striker.

The sale of Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich has also opened up a spot on the left, and while Gakpo has impressed at time in that role, he often shared minutes with Diaz in 2024-25 rather than claiming the position as his own.

Rodrygo’s skillset is arguably more rounded than Gakpo’s, and his creativity could help provide chances for the likes of Ekitike and Salah.

Should Arsenal sign Rodrygo or Eberechi Eze?

Mikel Arteta’s Gunners side are set to face Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday, and the head coach will hope that new striker Viktor Gyokeres can get his career off to a scoring start.

Gyokeres is not the only forward to have joined Arsenal as winger Noni Madueke was also signed, and he could be used as a versatile option across the frontline.

Despite the duo arriving at the Emirates, some supporters are concerned that the Londoners are still short in attack, with links to Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze hinting at Arteta’s desire to add more creativity into his starting XI.

Rodrygo could be a sensible alternative to Eze, especially as the winger is seemingly out of favour under Alonso, and that could make Real easier to deal with than Palace.
