Rangers Leading The Race For This Former Aberdeen Hitman: Why They Must Get The Deal Done
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

If a recent report from the SunSport is believed to be true, Rangers have emerged as an option for Bojan Miovski. The Girona centre-forward has not travelled with the squad for their trip to Villarreal, and the Gers, aiming for reinforcements up top, are weighing up a season-long loan move for the former Aberdeen hitman.

The 26-year-old North Macedonia international spent the initial years with Bregalnica, Rabotnichki, Makedonija GP and Renova back in his homeland before plying his trade in Hungary to join MTK Budapest. The Dons tied him down in a low-key €650,000 transfer ahead of the 2022-23 season, and the striking ace proved to be an instant success at Pittodrie with 44 goals in 98 appearances during his two-year tenure.

His sharpness high up the pitch earned him a €6.5m move to La Liga, with Girona snapping him up last summer, having secured a Champions League spot the season before. But the Blanquivermells had a below-par campaign as they narrowly escaped a relegation scare. Miovski failed to secure a regular role, as he only netted four times in 22 outings across competitions.

Although the Macedonian started last weekend against Rayo Vallecano, Paulo Gazzaniga’s marching order forced Míchel to take him off and bring in Vladyslav Krapyvtsov between the sticks. However, he is now surplus to requirements at Estadi Montilivi, and a loan switch to Rangers has been addressed as the most attractive option.

Why Rangers Must Snap Him Up

The transition at Ibrox is still in progress under Russell Martin. But the ex-Southampton boss has so far failed to build an identity despite being backed by the board with ten new first-team signings. While the players have yet to gel in and make things work, the gaffer might require further attacking additions amid doubts over Cyriel Dessers and Hamza Igamane’s future beyond this summer window.

Rangers previously rejected bids for Dessers, but the veteran Nigerian has emerged as a transfer target for Serie A duo Verona and Cremonese. Lille, the long-term admirers of Igamane, might face competition from the Dutch giants Feyenoord, and the Gers, yet to find a rhythm, must resolve the conundrum high up the pitch.

Miovski proved his poaching traits in Scottish football, and the flair and creative spark of Djeidi Gassama, Oliver Antman, and Mikey Moore from the flanks could see him hit a 20-goal season. He might struggle to fit in Martin’s style of play due to his lack of mobility and all-round traits, but the manager must be willing to give him the benefit of the doubt for his previous spell.
