Real Madrid star reveals truth about his summer transfer window – ‘All lies’

Real Madrid star David Alaba was one of the names mentioned as a potential exit from the club over the last few months, with doubts about the Austrian’s role under Xabi Alonso. The veteran defender is now back from injury after undergoing a third surgery in two years.

Alaba was a de facto starter under Carlo Ancelotti before a nasty cruciate ligament injury, which required a second surgery to get over. Four months after returning, Alaba again went down with another knee injury which required surgery in April. Los Blancos appear to be placing their future in the hands of Eder Militao and Dean Huijsen, and reportedly offered to terminate his deal this summer. Alaba was also rumoured to be the subject of several offers.

David Alaba responds to transfer talk

The 33-year-old has been linked with a move to Turkiye and to Serie A in recent weeks, but ahead of Austria’s clash with Cyprus, Alaba gave a firm response to the exit talk.

“I’ve been in football long enough that rumours are part of the business. Fortunately, they’re things I don’t dwell on for too long, and I laughed a lot because none of it was true; it was all lies,” Diario AS quote.

Alaba on fitness – ‘I’m feeling good now’

Alaba is yet to feature under Xabi Alonso, and there are doubts about his ability to compete for a starting role this season. However he seemed confident on his fitness.

“I’m feeling good now; I’ve made a lot of progress lately. I think I could play 90 minutes with the national team, although I don’t know if it would make sense. We’ll see how I feel in the upcoming games. My goal is to play and be on the pitch.”

He would go on to start and play 70 minutes for Austria on Saturday night, as they defeated Cyprus 1-0 in their World Cup qualifier. It was his first start since April.
