Barcelona director hints at extended Spotify Camp Nou delay
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

On Tuesday, Barcelona confirmed that they will not be returning to the Spotify Camp Nou for this weekend’s first home match of the season against Valencia. Strong efforts were made to ensure that the fixture could be played at the club’s stadium, but instead, it will be held at the Estadi Johan Cruyff.

On the back of this news, Elena Fort, who is vice-president of the Institutional Area of Barcelona, has spoken on the matter, confirming to Catalunya Radio (via MD) that there is hope for a return to the Spotify Camp Nou for the match against Getafe next weekend, although it cannot be said for certain.

“We have been working until the last moment to get all the processing, but it has not been possible. As soon as they realised that it was not possible to return on the 14th, we communicated it. We hope that next week this more bureaucratic part will be resolved, the work of this first phase is finished.

“We hope to have the authorisation, but I can’t say for sure that against Getafe we will be at the Camp Nou. We will try to arrive as soon as possible, and when we have certainties, we will go step by step. We are working to start (the Champions League) at the Camp Nou on the 1st of October.”

Barcelona are desperate for Spotify Camp Nou return

It has now been over 27 months since Barcelona last played a match at the Spotify Camp Nou, and given the financial implications that come with a return to their iconic home, it is understandable that there is a strong desperation for the green light to be given from the relevant authorities.

If a return is not possible against Getafe too, Barcelona would then be racing against the clock to ensure that they can play the league phase matches of their Champions League campaign at the Spotify Camp Nou.
