Barcelona star poised to miss El Clasico as calf injury confirmed
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Barcelona have been dealt multiple injury blows in the last few weeks, and another has now dropped during the international break – and critically, with only a fortnight to go until they face Real Madrid in El Clasico.

The likes of Raphinha, Fermin Lopez, Joan Garcia and Lamine Yamal have been affected by their own injury woes, which have been them miss matches in recent weeks. After when Barcelona return to action after the international break, it’s almost certain that they will also be without Dani Olmo.

On Friday, the Spanish Football Federation confirmed that Olmo had been forced to withdraw from the Spain squad to face Georgia and Bulgaria. In an official medical report, it was confirmed that the Barcelona midfielder arrived at the training camp with muscle fatigue, which has failed to subside.

“Dani Olmo will not be able to face Georgia in Elche and Bulgaria in Valladolid due to injury. The player arrived last Monday at the training camp with signs of muscle fatigue, as reported by FC Barcelona. Since that moment the symptoms have been improving little by little with treatment and dosage of loads. So today it was planned that the striker would exclusively do part of the scheduled training where he has reported muscle discomfort in his left leg.

“For this reason, he has undergone complementary tests and has been diagnosed with a muscle injury that has been reported to FC Barcelona’s medical services. The player will begin his recovery in the National Team’s training camp and tomorrow he will return to Barcelona when the rest of the expedition travels to Elche to face the Georgian national team.”

How long could Barcelona be without Olmo?

Barcelona are yet to do medical tests on Olmo, with MD stating that the plan is for these to take place on Monday. It is expected that he will be out for the upcoming matches against Girona and Olympiacos – as for El Clasico, he has been labelled as a doubt, which is not what Hansi Flick needs considering he may also be without two other attacking midfield options in Raphinha and Fermin for the trip to the Santiago Bernabeu.
