In recent weeks, much has been made of the lack of options that Hansi Flick has at his disposal at Barcelona. Due to financial restraints, only Joan Garcia, Marcus Rashford and Roony Bardghji arrived during the summer, and this may not be enough for the Catalans to last the remainder of the season, especially if their injury woes continue.
Despite this, Barcelona sporting director Deco has confirmed (via MD) that it is unlikely for any signings to be made during the winter transfer window.
“I don’t see that we have to go to the winter market, at the moment. The season will tell you a lot of things. No player asked you to leave and that has not conditioned the market. We will go at the right time we need it. If something gets out of control or if we need or want a player, I won’t tell you names, we’ll be attentive.”
Deco: “Rigor is sometimes too much against Barcelona”
Deco also spoke on the recent controversy involving Flick, who was sent off by referee Jesus Gil Manzano during Barcelona’s victory over Girona on Saturday.
“The coach said that he has not insulted. I think we have to appeal, rigor is sometimes too much against us, it always goes much more to the limit. We will do what we have to do at the legal level. We always row against many things. In Madrid we will see, we will not enter into these policies. Maybe there are very rigorous things against us, but that’s not what we’re going for, we need to improve.”
Also, Deco was asked about the decision for Barcelona’s December match against Villarreal to be moved to the United States, which has caused lots of controversy.
“It’s normal that they don’t like it. It’s a game that is very far away, but we have to win a lot of games before, we don’t have to talk about Miami. We know that the disadvantage of the trip is for both teams, but we don’t have to be thinking about Miami, it’s too far away.”
