Chelsea are prepared to smash their transfer record to sign Argentine striker Julián Alvarez from Atlético Madrid next summer.
They believe that the 24-year old fits the mould of the type of versatile striker they are looking for to bolster their attack, and the fact that he is Premier League proven is a major bonus.
World Cup winner Alvarez spent two seasons at Manchester City, and scored 36 goals in 103 appearances for them, until he was sold to Atlético for a fee of ₤82 million in the summer of 2024.
Since he has been in Spain his scoring rate is better than a goal every other game, whilst he also regularly provides assists as well.
PSG and Barcelona are both also reported to be tracking him.
However, to prise him away from the Estadio Metropolitano will be no easy task, which is why Chelsea are prepared to tempt Atlético with an offer that could be worth in excess of ₤125 million, smashing not only Chelsea’s but the British transfer record.
