Barcelona lose second appeal to register Olmo ahead of LaLiga deadline – Soccer News

Barcelona have lost another appeal to LaLiga after seeing their bid to register Dani Olmo for the rest of the campaign rejected, according to Marca.

Olmo joined Barca from RB Leipzig for a reported £50million fee, but with the club unable to meet LaLiga’s wage cap, was only registered for the first half of the season.

The 26-year-old’s start at Camp Nou was marred by a muscle injury, but he has since scored six goals in 15 appearances in all competitions for Hansi Flick’s side.

After their initial attempt to register Olmo was knocked back, the Court of First Instance 47 of Barcelona also denied the club approval for the registration of Olmo.

The latest developments mean Barcelona could lose Olmo on a free transfer in January, but the Blaugrana remain confident of retaining his services.

Olmo reportedly included a clause in his contract that would allow him to leave Camp Nou on a free if the club were unable to register him due to financial restraints.

One solution that has been suggested is to sell VIP boxes at Camp Nou for up to 20 years to Middle Eastern investors in a deal worth a reported £82.9million.

That would enable Barcelona to meet financial fair play rules, which would then allow them to extend the registration of Olmo and his team-mate Pau Victor.

LaLiga approved the registration of Olmo and Victor for the first half of the season only, giving them a temporary permit to use the players while they kept looking for fresh revenue streams before January.

Barcelona responded by taking the league to court, claiming a failure to grant the extension would infringe upon the players’ workers’ rights.

But that appeal has since been rejected, with the club now scampering to find alternative solutions to resolve the issue in the coming days.
