Liverpool reportedly tabled a series of contract offers in a bid to keep Trent Alexander-Arnold at Anfield

Alexander-Arnold has been linked with a move to Real Madrid throughout the season amid uncertainty surrounding his contract situation at the club.

On Monday morning, the right-back confirmed Liverpool’s fans’ worst fears, announcing via social media that he will depart his boyhood club when his contract expires this summer.

As a result, Alexander-Arnold has just three games left as a Liverpool player, with the Reds set to wrap up their Premier League title-winning campaign with home matches against Arsenal and Crystal Palace, either side of an away meeting with Crystal Palace.

The England international will leave the Reds after winning two Premier League titles, the Champions League, the FA Cup, the EFL Cup, the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.

Liverpool made several attempts to keep Alexander-Arnold

However, according to journalist Ben Jacobs, Liverpool made several attempts to stop their academy graduate from leaving the club.

The update claims that Richard Hughes offered Alexander-Arnold a new deal in one of his first duties when he became Liverpool’s new sporting director last summer.

Hughes supposedly made it one of his priorities to attempt to agree fresh terms with Alexander Arnold after the sporting director had spoken to Liverpool head coach Arne Slot.

The Premier League champions tabled a ‘series of significant offers’ in a bid to extend the defender’s stay beyond the end of the season.

However, Alexander-Arnold ultimately turned down each of Liverpool’s offers after seemingly making the decision to join Real Madrid.

The key factor behind his final decision was the opportunity to try a new experience rather than being driven by any monetary factors.

Have Real Madrid confirmed Alexander-Arnold’s signing?

While Alexander-Arnold has confirmed his Liverpool exit, there has been no official announcement about his move to Spanish giants Real Madrid.

However, it only appears to be a matter of time until Los Blancos announce that Alexander-Arnold will join his friend and England teammate, Jude Bellingham, in the Spanish capital.

The only real uncertainty surrounding Alexander-Arnold’s situation is whether he will be able to play for Real Madrid in the Club World Cup in June.

The full-back’s contract expires on June 30, meaning Real Madrid will have to pay Liverpool compensation if they want to recruit him for this summer’s tournament.
