Arsenal Enter Race For This On-Demand Barcelona Star: Can They Lure Him?

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Arsenal have entered the race to sign Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong. The Premier League club are ready to offer as much as €75 million to lure away the Dutch player in the summer transfer window.

Frenkie de Jong is doing well lately

Frenkie de Jong arrived at Barcelona from Ajax in the summer of 2019. Since then he has been a decent performance even if he does not stand out from the crowd. He continues to be an integral part of the squad and one of the best midfielders in his role.

Coming from a long-term injury, de Jong has featured in 26 this season so far. In those many appearances, he has two goals and one assist. He is averaging 0.7 tackles, 0.4 interceptions, and 0.2 clearances per game (stats via whoscored).

The Dutch midfielder is quite versatile in donning different roles in the midfield. He is press-resistant and is comfortable on the ball. He distributes the ball really well and has also worked hard on his off-the-ball movements.

Frenkie de Jong can strengthen Arsenal

Arsenal wanted to sign a defensive midfielder and were after Martin Zubimendi. However, the player decided to stay at his boyhood club and signed a new contract. Hence, the English outfit has turned their focus towards Frenkie de Jong.

De Jong took his time after the injury but has peaked well in recent weeks. He has earned the trust of Hansi Flick and is starting regularly. His contract expires in 2026 but the renewal talks haven’t been initiated yet, sparking an opportunity for other clubs.

Arsenal have been one of the most competitive teams in the Premier League in recent seasons. They need a few more upgrades to lift titles. In that mission, the 27-year-old can be a fitting addition but convincing him won’t be easy at all.
