Barcelona confirm worst-case scenario for Dani Olmo injury
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Barcelona have confirmed an injury to Dani Olmo, after the Spain international limped off against Osasuna in the first half. The 26-year-old has a hamstring injury, which he suffered after converting a penalty in their 3-0 win over Los Rojillo.

Olmo has suffered significantly from injuries this season, missing ten games in La Liga through fitness issues, and has only taken part in around a third of their minutes in the league this season. The Catalan midfielder played for Spain on Sunday night, and will now be absent for key clashes in the Copa del Rey. Originally the diagnosis reported was for two to three weeks, and there was some hope that he could be back in time for the first leg of their Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund at Montjuic on the ninth of April.

However the Blaugrana state that he will be out for three weeks, which would rule him out of not only the first leg, but the return in Germany too. Currently he is on course to miss: Girona (H), Atletico Madrid (A), Real Betis (H), Dortmund (H), Leganes (A) and Dortmund (A). If that recovery plan is followed, then he would be available for a clash with Celta Vigo at home on the 19th of April.

Jules Koundé: “I think it’s disrespectful to the clubs and the players to schedule a match on a date like today. We’re not robots. If we want to keep putting on this show, we need a rest. Whether it’s Barça, Madrid, or Osasuna.”

It is the one position in which Barcelona are most blessed with depth, with Raphinha, Pedri, Fermin Lopez, Gavi and Pablo Torre all capable of playing behind Robert Lewandowski, although it seems most likely that Gavi will be used in front of Pedri and Frenkie de Jong. It does rob Hansi Flick of depth though, and none of those alternatives have demonstrated the fleet of foot nor the vision that Olmo brings. Arguably Torre is the closest in terms of profile, albeit the lowest in the pecking order until now.

If you’re understandably keen to attend Barcelona’s Champions League clash with Dortmund, your options for doing so are explained here.
