Barcelona finally return to Nou Camp after £900million renovation

BARCELONA will FINALLY return to action at the newly revamped Nou Camp at the weekend.

The La Liga giants will host Athletic Bilbao this coming Saturday as they make a long-awaited return to their famous home.

As part of the first phase, a licence has been approved for 45,401 fans to attend matches at the ground.

It comes after the doors where opened to the public for the first time earlier this month with an open training session held for 23,000 supporters.

Club icon Lionel Messi was also pictured back at the ground where he made his name to check out the new surroundings.

The return to the Nou Camp comes after a couple of years away from the iconic venue, with the club playing at the city’s Olympic stadium in Montjuic.

The ground will increase its capacity to a whopping 105,000 spectators.

A club statement reads: “FC Barcelona informs that the match corresponding to matchday 13 of the League, against Athletic Club, scheduled for Saturday, November 22 at 16:15 hours, will finally be played at Spotify Camp Nou.

“This decision comes after obtaining the first occupancy license corresponding to Phase 1B, which allows increasing the capacity up to 45,401 spectators.

“This authorisation includes the entire Lateral area and adds to the license already granted for Phase 1A, which covers the Tribune and South Goal.

“The club continues working on Phase 1C to guarantee the resumption of activity in the North Goal, gathering all operational, security, and comfort conditions for members and fans.

“Regarding the UEFA Champions League, the club is working jointly with UEFA to be able to play the match against Eintracht Frankfurt at Spotify Camp Nou, since the necessary requirements are met, although confirmation is still awaited.”

A return home will come as a major boost to all associated with the club.
