Barcelona will kick on in Europe next season, says Araujo – Soccer News

Ronald Araujo is confident Barcelona, who clinched a domestic treble by winning LaLiga, the Copa del Rey and the Supercopa de Espana, have what it takes to capture the Champions League trophy next season.

Thousands joined Barcelona’s victory parade from Camp Nou to the Arc de Triomf on Friday, a day after they secured their 28th Spanish top-flight title with a 2-0 win at Espanyol.

The Blaugrana have won 12 league titles since the turn of the century, three more than rivals Real Madrid and only behind Bayern Munich’s 18 in Europe’s top five leagues.

They fell short in the Champions League semi-finals, losing 7-6 on aggregate to Inter, but Araujo is confident they will be better in Europe next campaign.

“We’re very happy, we deserve it. The team and the people deserve it. Nobody was betting on us at the beginning of the season and we have won three titles,” Araujo told Barca One during the open-bus parade.

“People are excited about this team because there is good raw material. We missed the Champions League, but we will get it.”

Barca last won the Champions League in 2015, when a front three of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar fired them to victory over Juventus in the final.

Hansi Flick’s team host Villarreal in LaLiga on Saturday, before rounding off their campaign against Athletic Bilbao next week.
