Bayern Munich confirmed as Bundesliga champions as Harry Kane secures first major trophy of career

Bayern Munich have been confirmed as Bundesliga champions for the 2024-25 campaign, with Harry Kane finally clinching the first major title of his career in a special moment for the England captain.

Kane made the move to Bayern from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2023, but the 2023-24 campaign proved to be a frustrating one for the Munich giants, finishing third in the Bundesliga, while they were runners-up in the DFL-Supercup and semi-finalists in the Champions League.

Bayern’s title party was delayed on Saturday, as Yussuf Poulsen scored a stoppage-time goal for RB Leipzig to make it 3-3 at Red Bull Arena.

Bayer Leverkusen needed to beat Freiburg on Sunday afternoon to keep the title race alive, but Xabi Alonso’s side could only draw 2-2, and the result has now confirmed Vincent Kompany’s side as champions.

Indeed, Bayern are top of the pile with 76 points, while Leverkusen are second on 68 points, with the 2023-24 champions only able to reach 74 points with wins in their last two matches of the campaign.

Bayern have a record of 23 wins, seven draws and two defeats from their 32 league matches this season, while they have scored 93 times and conceded 32, with the Munich outfit proving to be Bundesliga’s best outfit in 2024-25.

Allianz Arena will be bouncing when Kompany’s side return to action against Borussia Monchengladbach on May 10, with the team then concluding their Bundesliga campaign away to Hoffenheim on May 17.

It was always going to be a tall order for Leverkusen to make it back-to-back Bundesliga titles, and questions will now be asked about Alonso’s future, with Real Madrid believed to be determined to appoint him as their new head coach.

Alonso has already insisted that he will not discuss his future until the end of the campaign, though, and finishing second would still go down as a strong campaign for the Black and Reds, who scored twice late on against Freiburg to draw 2-2.

Kane secures first major title of his career

Kane has had to be patient, but the 31-year-old now has the first major trophy of his career, and he certainly deserves it.

At Tottenham, the forward finished as a runner-up twice in the League Cup, in addition to the Champions League final in 2018-19.

With England, he has been runners-up at Euro 2020 and Euro 2024, but Kane now has his hands on some serious silverware, and he will be aiming for more next term.

It has been another excellent campaign for the striker, scoring 36 goals and registering 12 assists in 44 appearances for Bayern, demonstrating that he remains one of the finest attackers in world football.

Since arriving at Allianz Arena, meanwhile, the Englishman has 80 goals and 24 assists in 80 appearances, and he has another two years left to run on his contract, with talk of a potential return to the Premier League this summer believed to be wide of the mark.
