Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies signs a new contract with the German club to end speculation linking him with the likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid.

Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies has signed a new contract to commit his future to the Bundesliga club.

The Canada international has seen his future become the subject of much uncertainty after the final year of his Bayern contract.

In fact, Davies entered the final six months of his deal, meaning he could speak to potential suitors over a pre-contract agreement.

Davies’ contract situation has led to interest from a number of major European clubs, including Manchester United and Real Madrid.

However, it recently emerged that Davies was ready to put an end to the speculation by penning a new deal with the German giants.

Davies signs new Bayern deal

Bayern have now made an official announcement to confirm that Davies has signed a new contract to keep him at the club until the summer of 20230.

“I am very happy to have extended my contract at this great club,” Davies told the club’s official website. “I came to FC Bayern when I was 18 and just wanted to learn as much as possible every day to become one of the best in my position.

“Now I’m looking forward to another five years together. I’ve already achieved a lot here, but there’s more to come.”

Davies will be looking to add to his trophy haul with Bayern, having already won multiple honours with the Bavarians, including five Bundesliga titles, two DFB-Pokals and a Champions League.

The 24-year-old has made 25 competitive appearances for Vincent Kompany’s side this season, chipping in with one goal and two assists.

However, he is currently on the sidelines after missing the last three matches with a hamstring injury he picked up in a Champions League defeat to Feyenoord.

What now for Manchester United and Real Madrid?

Man United were believed to be targeting the Bayern left-back after seeing Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia struggle with injury.

However, they have since recruited a left-sided defender for Ruben Amorim’s squad, having signed Patrick Dorgu from Serie A side Lecce for an initial €30m (£25.1m).

Dorgu’s arrival has allowed Man United to send Malacia out on loan to PSV Eindhoven, with an option for the Dutch club to make the move permanent.

In contrast to the Red Devils, Real Madrid are still believed to be on the lookout for a new left-back for the 2025-26 season.

Los Blancos appear to be unconvinced whether Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia can be their first-choice option for the long-term future.
