Betis secure deadline day agreement with Ma United to re-sign Antony

Manchester United winger Antony is on the verge of re-joining Real Betis, as a conclusion nears in this summer-long saga.

Betis initially signed Antony on loan during the winter transfer window, and he was a star performer for Manuel Pellegrini’s side throughout the second half of last season. The 25-yearold winger registered nine goals and five assists across all competitions, as he helped Los Verdiblancos finish sixth in La Liga, as well as reach the final of the UEFA Conference League.

Because of his great loan spell, Betis have been intent on re-signing Antony throughout the summer transfer window. Their idea had been to secure another temporary arrangement, but Man United have been clear that they would only sanction a transfer.

And it had looked like that an agreement had finally be reached last week when reports emerged of a €28m deal being signed off, but Betis quickly clarified that this was not the case. However, with 12 hours to go until the transfer window closes, a resolution has now come.

As reported by David Ornstein, Betis and Man United have reached an agreement for Antony to return to the Andalusian club on a deal worth €25m. The Premier League giants will retain a 50% sell-on clause, and crucially, they will not need to pay anything towards the Brazil international’s severance package, which had been a sticking point during negotiations.

Betis will finally get their man – but that’s it

Betis have finally reached an agreement to re-sign Antony, which is fantastic news for the club and its supporters. A favourable deal has been found, but crucially, Diario AS say that the cost means it is unlikely that there are any further additions on deadline day – which will be a concern for Pellegrini, as he still has holes in his squad.
