Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier could be stuck at Elland Road until January after a reported deadline day move to Lorient failed to materialise.
Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier reportedly failed to secure a move to former club Lorient during the summer transfer window.
The 25-year-old was the first-choice man in between the sticks for the majority of last season as the Whites secured promotion to the Premier League.
Part of a squad which won the Championship title on the final day, Meslier kept a sensational tally of 21 clean sheets across 39 matches.
However, a string of poor performances near the conclusion of the second-tier saw the Frenchman lose his spot in Daniel Farke’s XI.
Meslier is yet to feature for Leeds since their return to the Premier League last month, failing to make any of the top-tier matchday squads.
Leeds goalkeeper Meslier falls short of Lorient switch
According to The Times, Leeds goalkeeper Meslier was on the verge of a transfer lifeline during the final knockings of the summer window.
The report claims that the 25-year-old was attracting interest from former club Lorient ahead of the 7pm deadline on September 1.
It is understood that Leeds and the Ligue 1 outfit were in discussions over a move, but failed to hash out an agreement in time.
As well as the newly-promoted French side, it is believed that La Liga club Valencia were also keen on signing the Frenchman last month.
The Spanish team are currently managed by Carlos Corberan, who has experience of coaching against Meslier whilst at West Bromwich Albion.

Meslier’s Elland Road nightmare
Frozen out of the first-team plans at Elland Road, Meslier might have to wait until January to enjoy any senior football at this crucial stage in his career.
Farke’s men have moved in a different direction since reaching the Premier League, with Lucas Perri and Karl Darlow making up the shot-stopping options.
With the transfer windows in Turkey and Saudi Arabia closing on September 8, there is still a glimmer of hope of a move way for game-starved Meslier.
