Flick and Barca focused on Betis ahead of Champions League quarters – Soccer News

Hansi Flick insisted that Barcelona’s full focus remains on extending their lead at the summit of the LaLiga standings ahead of their Champions League quarter-final clash.

Barcelona face Borussia Dortmund in the first leg of their last eight tie next Wednesday, but first welcome Real Betis to the Camp Nou this Saturday.

Flick’s team are currently three points clear of second-placed Real Madrid in the table and are enjoying a nine-game winning run in LaLiga.

Indeed, it is their longest streak under a single coach in the competition since March 2016, when now Paris Saint-Germain boss Luis Enrique was at the helm (W12).

But Betis, who sit sixth in the division, come into the fixture with confidence, having won their last six LaLiga fixtures.

Should they upset the league leaders, they will establish their longest-ever winning streak in the top-flight (also six in 1934, 1960 and 2018).

“We always focus on the next game, we don’t look at Dortmund, far from it. We are focused on Betis and on getting fresh legs tomorrow,” Flick told reporters on Friday.

Barcelona are chasing a quadruple of major trophies this season, having already lifted the Supercopa de Espana against rivals Madrid back in January.

They also booked their place in the final of the Copa del Rey, where they will face Carlo Ancelotti’s side, and are among the favourites to win the Champions League.

Barcelona are given a 24% chance of lifting a sixth Champions League by the Opta supercomputer, the highest of any team left in the competition, with PSG in second (19%).

“I have the feeling that the team now believe in themselves. My job is to remind them that we have to play and show what we are worth on the pitch,” Flick said.

“We fight for everything, we believe in ourselves and we want to win every competition.

“It’s a long journey, there’s still a long way to go (in LaLiga). There are nine games left. They are games that can be won or lost.

“There are other teams who are in the fight and who have the quality to win the title, not just Madrid and Barca.”

Flick also confirmed that Gavi would be available to face Betis, with the midfielder missing their Copa del Rey semi-final win over Atletico Madrid in midweek.

“It’s going to be a difficult game. We saw that in the Copa, too. The result didn’t represent how the match went. We have to play at our best against them,” Flick added.

“We have to manage the players’ load and tomorrow we’ll see what happens.”
