Flick: Barcelona may have to work harder for trophies next season – Soccer News
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has suggested that they may need to work harder to win trophies next season after playing their final home game of a successful 2024-25 campaign on Sunday.

The hosts were beaten 3-2 by Villarreal, but had already been confirmed as LaLiga champions and were presented with the trophy following the match.

Flick’s side also beat Real Madrid in the final of the Copa del Rey and won the 2025 Spanish Super Cup.

“Next season we may have to work even harder to win titles. It’s not about perfection, it’s about evolution,” he told DAZN.

“The players have done an extraordinary job and deserve a day like this. I’ve told the players they deserve this celebration.

“You can feel the connection with the fans all season, and the way the team plays has helped foster this connection. The party was incredible, and for me as a German, it was incredible.”

Their success felt far away in December following a 2-1 defeat at home to title rivals Atletico Madrid, which saw the latter go top of the table following a 96th-minute Alexander Sorloth winner.

But, according to Flick, that defeat served as a helpful yardstick as to what needed to be better and where their biggest potential was.

“We saw a lot of potential in the team and thought we could improve things, and the players have shown how good they are with the ball. As a player or as a human being, when you have confidence, anything is possible,” he added.

“In every training session, you see what they like to improve, and for me, the most important game was the one against Atletico. We lost, but we played very well, and here we’re starting to shake off that November slump.

“It helped us keep believing. De Jong returned, Gavi returned, we improved, and now we can celebrate.”

Their LaLiga title is the 28th in the club’s history, while the Copa del Rey was the 32nd the club has won.
