Football España discuss the La Liga title race with CNN

After another brilliant weekend of La Liga action, Football España joined CNN World Sport to discuss the aftermath of the Madrid derby, Barcelona’s title and naturally, Real Madrid’s ongoing campaign against the officiating in Spain.

Both Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid came out of their 1-1 draw on Saturday night with their title challenge well in tact, as they maintained their spot at the top of the table. A point a piece was a result that perhaps Carlo Ancelotti and Diego Simeone would have taken before the start of the night given the circumstances.

Los Blancos sit atop La Liga on 50 points, with Atletico a point behind on 49, but arguably the big winners from the weekend were Barcelona: they slashed the gap at the top of the table from five points to just two, and sit on 48 points.

Hansi Flick’s side survived a second half red card to Fermin Lopez to run out 4-1 winners away at Sevilla on Sunday night. Their total of 111 goals this season outstrips their final total from last y, and has seen 16 different players pop up on the scoresheet. They have the best attack in La Liga by 13 goals, but six teams can boast better defences. Can they buck the trend that has led to titles this season?

In addition, La Liga today filed a formal complaint to the Competition Committee about Real Madrid’s four-page letter complaining of biased refereeing against them. There have been no shortage of complaints about officiating in La Liga over recent months and indeed years, but Los Blancos’ stance has been met with a strong backlash from the other clubs in Spain.

Rafael Louzan, the Royal Spanish Football Federation President (RFEF), to whom the letter was directed, has promised ‘structural change’ to the refereeing in Spain. La Liga, the RFEF and the Primera clubs met without Real Madrid on Thursday to discuss changes.
