Former Barcelona star reveals why he accepted summer exit
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Barcelona made a host of transfer exit calls over the summer including the sale of Pablo Torre to La Liga side Mallorca.

As part of a major rebuild, aimed at balancing a delicate financial situation, Hansi Flick offloaded several back up players to release salary space to register new stars.

Torre’s departure Palma in mid-July was swiftly followed by departures for Pau Victor, Inigo Martinez and Oriol Romeu, as Flick finally got his unregistered players processed by La Liga.

The case of Torre was one of the clearer situations for the club as he wanted to move on in search of a regular first team role.

Torre had openly admitted his frustration at playing a limited part in Flick’s debut campaign as the midfielder confirmed a chat with the boss over his lack of action.

Flick was pragmatic on the situation as he saw no place for Torre at Barcelona and the club were happy to sell the Spain U21 international.

Torre quickly agreed terms with Mallorca on a four-year deal, and he joined Los Bermellones after Barcelona reached a deal with them too.

The small print of the agreement, as per Diario Sport, states Barcelona sold 50% of his rights for €5m and Mallorca have a buyout clause for the remainder for €25m.

Torre has settled in quickly at Mallorca and the 22-year-old believes the time was right to move on from Barcelona.

“I wanted to play. It’s hard to leave Barca, but as time goes by and you don’t play, you think about it,” as per Marca.

“No one wants to leave Barca, it’s hard to leave. I’ve learnt a lot there, and it was a great experience. I don’t regret being there at all, even though I didn’t play.

“There were some games where we were winning, and the manager could have given me minutes to keep everyone happy, but he didn’t do it for whatever reason.”
