Former Leeds United and Chelsea forward Patrick Bamford is close to a move to Spain. The 32-year-old veteran forward has been a free agent since leaving Elland Road just days before the transfer deadline this summer.
Bamford has been looking for a club since, and despite their salary limit issues, it appears Getafe are closing in on his signature. Los Azulones forward line was debilitated by the loss of Christantus Uche, who moved to Crystal Palace on deadline day, and no replacement was signed.
Patrick Bamford deal to be wrapped up imminently
According to Matteo Moretto, Bamford is ‘very close’ to signing with Getafe on a free transfer. He adds that Getafe and his agent plan to finalise the details of the deal today, and that Bamford is preparing to fly to Madrid.

Bamford’s time at Leeds United
Bamford has spent the majority of his career at Leeds, having come through at the Chelsea academy. Joining Leeds in 2018 for €7.9m from Middlesborough, Bamford has been a mainstay for the club as they have moved up and down between the Championship and Premier League. In total, Bamford has recorded 60 goals and 25 assists in 205 games.
His last season as a regular starter was in 2020-21 though, when Bamford scored 17 goals and gave nine assists in the Premier League, playing every single game. Recent years Bamford has become an option off the bench, scoring nine goals and giving two assists in 1,618 minutes. However last year he played just 325 mintues, and did not register a goal.
Jose Bordalas’ options up front
If he can get fit and firing, Getafe manager Jose Bordalas has a history of getting plenty out of veteran forwards. Currently Getafe have just Borja Mayoral as a natural number nine, although Juanmi has played through the middle at times. Bamford would provide an alternative, with top scorer this season Adrian Liso set to head off to compete in the under-20 World Cup tfor Spain.
