There continues to be fallout from Sunday night’s match between Getafe and Real Madrid, which was won 1-0 by the visitors. The big talking point has been the red card shown to Allan Nyom, who was dismissed less than a minute after coming on for an off-the-ball incident involving Vinicius Junior.
Nyom saw red for sticking his arm in the face of the Real Madrid winger, while there was also a clash of legs too. But prior to this, there had already been animosity from some of the Getafe players towards Vinicius, which one of those being defender Juan Iglesias.
In the 55th minute, the pair clashed, and as per Diario AS, Movistar+ cameras caught Iglesias criticising Vinicius’ conduct.
“That’s why everyone hates you. Learn from your teammates.”
Iglesias calls out Vinicius for “not respecting the opposition”
After the match, Iglesias was asked to elaborate on his clash with Vinicius, and he accused the Brazil international of not having any respect for Getafe.
“In football there are a lot of throws, a lot of bites. It’s things about the game, things about football, things about the players, which always stay on the field. But there are things that cannot be allowed, that must be respected. You have to respect the opposition, you have to respect the people. And when they are not respected, these sparks fly that nobody likes.”
It is not the first time that Vinicius has clashed with opposition players, and inevitably, it will not be the last either. But in the end, it is unlikely that he or Real Madrid will care much, given that they walked away with a crucial three points. Next up for Los Blancos is the Champions League clash against Juventus on Wednesday, before an El Clasico showdown on Sunday.
