Time is running out for Real Betis to reach an agreement to re-sign Antony from Manchester United before Monday’s deadline. It had been thought that a deal was done between both clubs earlier in the week, although Los Verdiblancos moved to clarify that this was not the case.
Man United are continuing to push for a transfer, whereas Betis want to bring Antony back to the club on another loan deal with an option or obligation to buy next summer. As things stand, there has been no consensus reached, and there are less than 48 hours for that to happen.
In the meantime, Betis head coach Manuel Pellegrini is left waiting to find out whether he can call upon Antony again. He was asked about the situation during his press conference on Saturday (via Diario AS), and he refused to give much away.
“I’m the same as in the past, I am neither optimistic nor pessimistic. We’ll see if it can be done or not, the club is trying.”
Antony return would be welcome boost for Betis
Alongside Isco, Antony was Betis; standout performer during the second half of last season, and with the former Real Madrid midfielder out for at least another two months due to a leg injury, it would be very welcome for Los Verdiblancos if he was to make a return to the club before the summer transfer window closes.
Time is running out for Betis, but their belief is that Man United will relax their demands as the deadline approaches. So far, this has failed to happen, but there could be changes as the transfer window enters its final 24 hours. But for now, the situation continues to have no outcome, with the two clubs still in talks over an arrangement that would be favourable for each.
