“I don’t regret it” – Premier League star reflects on Barcelona exit
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Next summer, Chelsea will be in the market for a new starting striker, but they could have had one already had Marc Guiu not left. The 19-year-old opted to sign for Chelsea in 2024, a decision that he has now opened up on.

Speaking to RAC1 (via Sport), Guiu had reiterated his belief that he made the right decision to swap Barcelona for Chelsea last summer, despite making only 16 appearances in the first team last season. He also spoke about whether he had contact with Hansi Flick prior to choosing to leave.

“I don’t regret leaving Barça. I left because I thought it was the best thing for my career and what I have to do now is enjoy the Premier League. It was a difficult decision, Barça gave me everything, it was my home. There were a lot of strikers and they didn’t guarantee me to be in the first team, so I think I chose the best option. Maresca called me and told me that they trusted me and the sporting project was incredible.

“I didn’t get to talk to Flick, he sent me a message when we were playing in the play-offs. I don’t know what would have happened if Xavi had stayed, but since it didn’t happen, I don’t want to think about it.”

Guiu believes Chelsea are favourites for Barcelona clash

Guiu was on loan at Sunderland in the early stages of the season before Chelsea opted to recall him after an injury to Liam Delap, which means that he could face Barcelona in the Champions League. He believes that his current club are firm favourites for the league phase match, which he is very much looking forward to.

“It will be a special match, the match of my life. Hopefully I can get minutes. I’ve already told Cubarsi that I’ll blow it up, although I wouldn’t celebrate a goal.

“Chelsea are the best team in the world at the moment. They have a squad, player by player, incredible. Maresca is very good and when we go out on the pitch we know what to do. The opponent has nothing to do. The key to Chelsea is the unity and the work of the coach. He works very well tactically, the training sessions are intense. I’m sure he has influence from Guardiola, the training sessions are very similar to those of Barça, with a lot of ball and a lot of positional play.”
