Saturday saw MD7 of the 2025-26 La Liga season continue with four more matches played across Spain, spanning three cities. The Madrid derby dominated the airwaves, but also in action were Villarreal, Athletic Club, Mallorca, Alaves, Getafe and Levante.
Villarreal edge out Athletic Club in tight La Ceramica clash
Villarreal 1-0 Athletic Club
Villarreal made it three domestic victories in a row in this keenly-fought contest at La Ceramica against Athletic Club, who will be one of their rivals for the Champions League places in La Liga. The visitors had a number of chances to break the deadlock, with Oihan Sancet particularly involved in these, but a combination of good saves from Luiz Junior and poor finishing ensured a clean sheet for the Yellow Submarine.
And late in the second half, they struck the only goal of the game from Alberto Moleiro, who scored for the first time since his summer move from Las Palmas. The result means that Villarreal are 3rd, level on points with second-placed Barcelona and only just behind league leaders Real Madrid. As for Athletic Club, they dropped to 8th.
First half strike leads Mallorca to long-awaited first victory
Mallorca 1-0 Alaves
After six matches without a win, it was lucky number seven for Mallorca at Son Moix as they edged out Alaves. Takuma Asano’s first half strike proved to the best difference between the two teams, much to the delight of the home faithful in Palma.
With that result, Mallorca moved off the bottom of La Liga, and they are now 18th – with only goal difference keeping them in the relegation zone. Alaves stayed in 10th, although there are chances for them to drop multiple positions depending on results in the next couple of days.
Getafe miss chance to move into top four in La Liga standings
Getafe 1-1 Levante
Levante bounced back from their thumping midweek defeat to Real Madrid with a very respectable point against Getafe. They took the lead in the first half as good play from Roger Brugue allowed Ivan Romero to find the back of the net, but the hosts struck back in the second period courtesy of defender Juan Iglesias.
Getafe would have gone 4th with a win, but instead, they dropped from 5th to 6th, behind Madrid derby winners Atletico Madrid. As for Levante, they moved up to 16th with this result.
