La Liga strikers – Who are the best forwards in Spain?

Some of the greatest goalscorers to ever play the beautiful game have graced the Spanish top flight over the years. Right now, a number of LaLiga strikers rank among the world’s best and we’re going to take a look at some of those according to statistical data.

Below, we’ve ranked the best strikers in LaLiga according to their L15 (Last 15 match average) score on Sorare’s scoring matrix. This is an advanced scoring system which not only rewards decisive actions such as goals and assists, but also takes into account virtually everything a player does on the pitch.

Aerial duels, dribbles and big chances missed are among the things that can have a significant impact on a forward player’s score. You can sign up to Sorare to start playing their global fantasy football game based on this scoring system.

To feature in our rankings, players must have appeared in at least eight of their last 15 eligible fixtures. That mostly includes LaLiga games, but where relevant, some international matches and all European fixtures are also scored. It’s also worth noting that players must have started the majority of their matches as a striker to count. We have a separate look at the best La Liga wingers where you can find many of the division’s best attacking talents.

LaLiga strikers 2024/2025 – Top 5 ranked by their Sorare scores

5. Fabio Silva, Las Palmas – 53.2

Whatever he goes on to achieve in his career, Fabio Silva may look back on the 2024/25 campaign as the period when things finally started to click.

The Portuguese forward had only just turned 18 when he joined Wolves for what seemed like a vastly inflated €40m fee in the summer of 2020. The teenager struggled to make much impact at Molineux and loan moves to Anderlecht, PSV and Rangers followed. Even at Ibrox last season, Silva could only manage four goals in 18 Scottish Premiership appearances, but the switch to sunny Gran Canaria has brought the best out of him.

Silva was a pivotal figure in the resurgence of Las Palmas under Diego Martinez at the end of last year. Despite a severe downturn in the form of his team since the turn of the year, the now 22-year-old has continued to look lively, taking his tally to seven goals in 17 LaLiga appearances.

4. Robert Lewandowski, Barcelona – 54.9

The man who currently leads the Pichichi race is Robert Lewandowski. The Barcelona striker has netted 20 goals in 23 appearances in the league this term, and he’s well placed to finish as the division’s top scorer for the second time in his three seasons in the Catalan capital.

The veteran forward has really benefited from working again with his former Bayern Munich boss Hansi Flick. He’s also had some really good service to feed off, with Raphinha and Lamine Yamal operating either side of him in a free-scoring Barca side.

While he’s well into the twilight years of his career, Lewandowski remains one of the top LaLiga centre forwards and he’s expected to sign a new contract until 2027 which could see him continue to lead the line for Barca for two more seasons.

3. Julian Alvarez, Atletico Madrid – 57.3

At a cool €75m, Atletico Madrid’s signing of Julian Alvarez was the most expensive in the Spanish top flight last summer. That price-tag inevitably put some pressure on the forward, and while he took a little bit of time to settle, Alvarez has really begun to prove his worth.

Many strikers have failed to deliver for Diego Simeone’s often cautiously-minded Atleti over the years, so a return of 17 goals so far from 37 appearances is certainly respectable.

It’s not just the number of goals that Alvarez has scored, but the importance of some of them. He has often struck late, scoring six times after the 75th minute, including a 90th minute winner in Vigo back on matchday seven of LaLiga, while his brace in the 2-1 comeback win over Bayer Leverkusen was pivotal to Atleti’s ability to qualify directly to the Champions League round-of-16.

2. Antoine Griezmann, Atletico Madrid – 59.0

Alvarez has shone alongside Antoine Griezmann up top for Atleti, with Alexander Sorloth also chipping in with some very important goals off the bench.

It’s still largely Griezmann that makes things tick for Los Rojiblancos in an attacking sense though, whether that’s dropping deep to influence the game or by getting in the penalty area and scoring goals himself.

The Frenchman has been one of the very best LaLiga forwards for more than a decade now, and when he finally retires, he’ll surely go down as one of the all-time Atletico Madrid greats, despite the period of unpopularity following his switch to Barcelona in 2019.

While he wasn’t universally welcomed back at time of his return, Grizi has since gone a long way to building bridges with the Atleti fanbase and he continues to rise on the list of LaLiga’s top scorers of all time.

1. Kylian Mbappe, Real Madrid – 65.0

Griezmann is not the only French World Cup winner currently strutting his stuff in Madrid, with Kylian Mbappe’s influence across town at the Santiago Bernabeu starting to grow after an unconvincing start.

Mbappe was wasteful in the opening part of the season, and while his average of 4.5 shots per game is still comfortably the most in the Spanish top flight, he has been much more clinical in recent weeks.

The 26-year-old has scored 10 goals in his last 10 games, heading into the second leg of Real Madrid’s Champions League tie against Manchester City. Only Lewandowski is ahead of him in the Pichichi race and that’s a battle that could intensify over the remainder of the season, with both players looking to spearhead their respective team’s title charge.

Rounding off the top 10 LaLiga forwards right now (strikers only), according to their Sorare rankings, three Villarreal players feature. Thierno Barry and Ayoze Perez have both made a big impact at the Estadi de la Ceramica following summer moves, while, when fit, Gerard Moreno is also still a quality performer. Marcelino in theory has the luxury of picking two of those three forwards, although injuries have meant that has rarely been the case.

Kike Garcia has also hit a rich vein of form since the appointment of Chacho Coudet at Alaves. The 35-year-old has scored nine in his 10 appearances in all competitions since the change, although he’s had little support on that front meaning the Basque side remain in big trouble.

Ante Budimir also features, with the Croatian the joint third-highest scorer in LaLiga right now, behind Lewandowski and Mbappe. The Osasuna striker has netted an impressive 30 goals in the Spanish top flight since the start of last season.
