Manchester United flop Antony reveals that he rejected the chance to move to a six-time European champion before signing for Real Betis on a permanent basis.
Former Manchester United winger Antony has revealed that he rejected the chance to move to Bayern Munich in the summer.
The future of the £84m man was a hot topic for debate during the previous transfer window after he kick-started his career on loan at Real Betis.
Nine goals and five assists from 26 appearances was a return far better than anticipated by all concerned, and the Spanish side eventually negotiated a permanent deal for the 25-year-old.
However, such was his form during the second half of 2024-25 that Man United officials held out for the best deal possible until it became apparent that the Brazil international only wanted a return to Spain.
Despite that move having always been likely to be finalised, Antony has claimed that he had the opportunity to move to another European giant.
Antony speaks on Bayern Munich interest
Speaking to Globo Esporte, Antony has revealed that he held conversations with Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany.
He said: “I’m going to be completely honest with you right now, it really shook me up. We’re talking about a global giant, Bayern Munich, where there is a coach with that kind of history. Vincent Kompany, called me and we had a conversation.
“He was super polite to me, said he always really liked my football, and this was at 11pm [on deadline day], a little after 11pm.
“Whether I wanted to or not, it [Bayern’s move] really affected me because of the greatness of the club, the greatness of the coach and the way he approached me, the way he talked to me.
“But what weighed heavily on my decision was that I’m a family, man. It’s about looking out for my children.
“Lorenzo [his son] loves this place, loves this city [Seville]. When we were on vacation in Brazil, without knowing anything, he always asked: “Dad, when are we going back to Spain?”

Did Antony make right decision?
With six goals and two assists from his 11 appearances for Real Betis during 2025-26, Antony is continuing to remain as the club’s star man.
The level of Bayern’s interest in Antony is unclear, but the timeline of events seems to suggest that the winger was viewed as an alternative to Nicolas Jackson when it was unclear if Chelsea could give the green light to his transfer to the Allianz Arena.
If Antony did move to Bayern, he would have been viewed as a backup squad member, and he may have lost all of the momentum that he had built up representing Real Betis.
