Marcus Rashford sets out plan to extend Barcelona stay

Marcus Rashford is hoping to kickstart his Barcelona career after a match-winning display in their UEFA Champions League opener.

Two goals from Rashford secured a 2-1 victory over Newcastle United at St James’ Park as the on-loan Manchester United star scored two second half to ensure all three points for Hansi Flick on Tyneside.

Rashford’s double ended his wait for a goal following a summer move from Old Trafford and the England international was ecstatic at full time.

“With the header, I attacked the space a little earlier because I found that space in the Newcastle area and that’s where I like to attack. I just focused on keeping the ball down. The header is more difficult for me.

“With the second one, I have scored more of those types of goal and I hope to score a few more.

“It’s about being confident, shooting and daring when you’re in front of goal. To score one of these goals in this type of game is perfect.”

Rashford also claimed he is starting to adjust to his new surroundings in Catalonia and called on the club to activate his €35m release clause at the end of the campaign.

“I want to stay here for as many years as possible. We’ll see if I can achieve that. I just have to focus on trying to do my job and help the team in any way I can,” as per Diario Sport.

“Tonight was a very good result, but we have to do it again this weekend.

“I feel like I have Flick’s confidence. I knew he was a top coach before arriving here, but working with him is a pleasure. I hope this good relationship continues throughout the season.”

Up next for Barcelona is a home La Liga tie against Getafe on September 21 at the temporary Estadi Johan Cruyff base.
