Newcastle United line up £43m bid to sign Barcelona star

Newcastle United are exploring the market for new attacking options this summer.

With not long left in the transfer window to shut show, the Magpies have little time to act and make their moves.

Eddie Howe and his recruitment team have priorititised attacking signings this summer but they have faced several setbacks in the market in their chase of their top transfer targets.

They initially wanted Joao Pedro but he opted to join Chelsea. Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko were the next attackers on their radar but both players preferred a move to Manchester United.

Now, with Alexander Isak facing an uncertain future due to interest from Liverpool, Howe and his team are looking for an attacking signing to add depth and quality to their squad ahead of what is expected to be a challenging season for them.

Newcastle United want Barcelona’s Ferran Torres

They are now targeting a move for a former Premier League attacker who plays in La Liga right mow.

Newcastle United’s hopes of bringing Ferran Torres back to the Premier League have taken a hit, with reports from Spain suggesting Barcelona have rejected a substantial bid for the versatile attacker.

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, both Newcastle and Tottenham Hotspur have tabled offers worth around £43.3 million (€50m) for the 25-year-old, but the Catalan giants remain unwilling to sell.

Torres’ future at Camp Nou had been the subject of speculation earlier this summer, particularly after Marcus Rashford arrived on loan from Manchester United, raising questions about his role in the team.

Despite this, Barcelona’s hierarchy, led by president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco, are said to have protected the Spain international from potential exits, viewing him as a valuable part of their squad depth.

Currently under contract until 2026, Torres has spent much of his recent time in a rotational role, operating both as a backup to Robert Lewandowski in the central striking position and as an option on either wing.

While not always a guaranteed starter, his ability to adapt across the front line makes him an asset in manager Hansi Flick’s plans and that is why the Spanish giants have no intention of letting him leave the club.
