Newcastle United Set To Receive €50 Million Offer For Their Star Midfielder From Real Madrid: Why They Should Not Agree?

Newcastle United have grown in stature as a club, and hence it would be no surprise that they receive bids for their star players. We have a report from Spanish news outlet Fichajes, which reveals that Real Madrid are ready to offer €50 million for defensive midfielder Sandro Tonali. However, the Magpies consider him important to their squad, and hence are not ready to sell him for that value.

Newcastle United value the 25-year-old even more and will expect a higher proposal to start off any meaningful conversation with Los Blancos. The new manager, Xabi Alonso, reportedly wants a defensive midfielder who can set the tempo of the game, connect defence to attack, and keep composure under pressure in possession.

The Merengues have looked at other profiles like Martin Zubimendi, Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo, and Rodri, and they have now turned their attention towards the Italian midfielder at St James’ Park. Real Madrid are expected to come after him in the upcoming January transfer window, but the Magpies will hold the advantage in the negotiations, as Tonali has a contract with the English club till 2028.

Any negotiations in the winter window will test patience on all sides. Earlier, reports even claimed that he quietly signed a contract extension at St James’ Park during his suspension.

Why is Tonali so important for the Magpies?

Tonali’s tactical influence on Eddie Howe’s system is defined by his versatility, technical quality, and engine-like work rate. He offers Howe a dynamic midfield option, complementing Bruno Guimarães by providing greater control and ball progression from deeper positions. Tonali’s impressive press resistance and ability to carry the ball forward under pressure are crucial for building attacks and transitioning quickly, particularly against aggressive opposition.

Defensively, Tonali’s high-volume pressing and excellent positional awareness help implement Howe’s high-intensity system. The 25-year-old excels at reading the game, cutting passing lanes, and winning the ball back, which is a significant factor in Newcastle’s solid defensive record when he plays.

Furthermore, his set-piece delivery adds another threat to Newcastle’s attacking arsenal. His physical capacity and aggression also allow him to cover extensive ground, aiding in both attack and defence. Newcastle United had invested heavily in the Italian, and hence they have every right to hold their ground.
