On Tuesday’s print edition, Sport mentioned that on-loan Aston Villa forward Marcus Rashford wants to join Barcelona. It is understood that the England international, who is currently playing on loan from Manchester United, is still open to joining the Catalan club.
Rashford’s Impressive Loan Spell At Villa Park
Rashford has caught the eye during his loan spell at Aston Villa so far. He has put in a run of impressive displays for Unai Emery’s side in the final third. The English talent has banged in four goals and grabbed six assists in 17 matches for the West Midlands club this season across all fronts.
The 27-year-old has made most of his appearances off the bench but has done well to average 1.9 shots, 1.3 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even been tidy when distributing possession in the final third based on his pass completion rate of 82.1% in league football (stats via whoscored).
Rashford’s current contract at his parent club Man United will run out in the summer of 2028 which would make it difficult for Barcelona to sign him on the cheap this off-season.
Should Barcelona Boss Hansi Flick Go For Rashford?
Rashford remains a decent finisher in front of the opposition goal. He has got the pace to cause a lot of headaches for his marker in the final third.
The English sensation can even create the odd chance for his teammates up top. He mainly operates as a left-sided wide player but can also function as a right-winger or as a centre-forward if asked to do so.
We can expect Rashford to bring more firepower to Barcelona boss Hansi Flick’s attack. He is also capable of being a potent attacking option for the Catalan club to rely on off the bench in the coming seasons.
At 27, Rashford is playing in his prime. Thus, it makes sense for Barca to go for a striker of his skillset as he could help them compete for some major trophies over the next few years. However, there are some concerns over whether Rashford can maintain his good form in La Liga if Barcelona manage to land him this summer.
