Real Madrid were busy during the summer, with four major signings added to Xabi Alonso’s squad. And aside from Lucas Vazquez and Luka Modric, there were no significant exits, which was not expected to be the case for the vast majority of the transfer window.
Specifically, it was widely reported that Rodrygo could leave Real Madrid, with the 24-year-old having attracting a lot of interest from Premier League clubs – specifically, Arsenal and Manchester City. But ultimately, he stayed at the Santiago Bernabeu, where he will remain for at least one more season.
Rodrygo had been open to offers during the summer, although his stance changed as the deadline approached. But that could have been tested by Paris Saint-Germain, as Fabrizio Romano (via MD) has revealed that the European champions had lined up a move for the Brazil international.
PSG wanted Rodrygo to replace Premier League target
PSG had eyed Rodrygo as their preferred target to replace Bradley Barcola, in the event that the 23-year-old had left. He attracted interest from Man City, as well as Liverpool and Bayern Munich, but ultimately, he also did not depart.
Rodrygo’s situation has settled for the next few months at least, but if he continues to struggle to start matches regularly, there is every chance that he does move on in 2026. The likes of Man City are bound to retain their interest in his services, and a pursuit could be stepped up from January.
It will be interesting to see how Rodrygo gets on at Real Madrid over the course of the 2025-26 season. He will be desperate for regular playing time given that the World Cup takes place next summer, but with Vinicius Junior ahead of him in the pecking order on the left wing, he may struggle for prominence.
