Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Atletico Madrid all reportedly turned down the chance to sign Manchester United attacker Alejandro Garnacho earlier this summer.
Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Atletico Madrid have all reportedly turned down the chance to sign Manchester United attacker Alejandro Garnacho during this summer’s transfer window.
Garnacho will leave Man United before the transfer deadline, and Chelsea are firmly at the head of the queue for the 21-year-old, who has allegedly already agreed personal terms with the Blues.
The Argentina international fell out with Red Devils head coach Ruben Amorim following the Europa League final, having been upset that he was not named in the starting side for the clash with Tottenham.
Garnacho hit out at Amorim after the match, while his agent and brother also criticised the Man United head coach, who told the player soon after that he was free to leave this summer.
A number of clubs have been credited with an interest in the forward, but it is understood that he wants to remain in the Premier League, with a move to Chelsea appealing the most.
Arsenal, Spurs, Atletico ‘turned down’ Garnacho
According to the Manchester Evening News, Arsenal, Tottenham and Atletico all decided against a move for Garnacho after doing their due diligence on the forward.
Garnacho’s attitude was called into question last season, and he paid for a team dinner as his punishment for heading straight down the tunnel after being substituted against Ipswich Town in the Premier League.
The forward also refused to celebrate a goal against Leicester City last November after feeling that he had been unfairly criticised by sections of the Man United fans.
Garnacho’s conduct after the Europa League final proved to be the final straw for Amorim, who has since taken Man United’s attack in a new direction with the arrivals of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko.
Will Garnacho join Chelsea this summer?
Garnacho is widely expected to join Chelsea before the summer transfer window closes for business.
Personal terms have allegedly already been agreed, with the forward determined to move to Stamford Bridge, but there is still an issue when it comes to the transfer fee.
Indeed, Man United are said to be holding firm on their £50m valuation, but Chelsea are not currently looking to pay more than £35m due to the player’s desire to leave.
Garnacho scored 11 goals and registered 10 assists in 58 appearances for Man United last term, while he has 26 goals and 22 assists in 144 appearances for the 20-time English champions in all competitions.
