Chelsea may be the newly crowned Club World Cup Champions.
But that does not stop other clubs coveting some of their players, with Carlton Cole and Moises Caicedo amongst those whose stock has risen this summer.
And now comes news that the new Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso has identified Enzo Fernandez as the player he would like to form the engine-room of his midfield.
Fernadez cost Chelsea ₤106.8 million when they signed him form Benfica in 2023, and they would be looking to make a profit on any deal for him.
Whilst Chelsea would be loathe to part with such an important player, they also have the pressure of the UEFA ultimatum. They need to show a positive transfer balance this summer, otherwise they will not be allowed to register any of their new players – like João Pedro, Liam DEelpa, or Jamie Gittens – to play for them in the Champions League next season.
