Real Madrid eye Erling Haaland as Vinicius Junior replacement

Real Madrid have started their planning for next summer’s transfer window, which could be another busy one for the club. It’s expected that one central defender and one midfielder will be signed, but there could also be a big change in attack.

Real Madrid have a star-studded attacking line-up featuring the likes of Vinicius Junior and Kylian Mbappe, but there have been question marks about whether the two can play together, given that they each favour the left wing. The latter has thrived as a striker over the last 12 months, but he could soon revert to his natural position.

That’s because CaughtOffside have reported that Vinicius, who has less than two years remaining on his contract, could be sold to Saudi Arabia for as much as €250m. And as far as a replacement goes, Real Madrid would want Erling Haaland.

Real Madrid have been interested in Haaland for many years, dating back to his time at Borussia Dortmund. And despite the fact that he recently signed a new Manchester City contract that will take him through to 2034, officials at the Santiago Bernabeu believe that he can still be signed.

Vinicius’ future would dictate when Real Madrid sign Haaland

There is no doubt that Real Madrid would love to sign Haaland, and as per the report, they have already made contact with his entourage. However, it is certain that he would not join without Vinicius’ exit, given that there would be no room for the trio to start together – unless Xabi Alonso were to utilise a 4-4-2, which seems unlikely given that depth he has in central midfield.

For now, it remains to be seen how the situation with Vinicius’ renewal plays out, but if it becomes clear that a Real Madrid exit is likely, it would be no surprise to see Haaland targeted as his replacement.
