It has been a no-brainer that Real Madrid have been interested in Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies for quite some time. The Canadian has been one of the best left-backs in the world for quite some time. Davies has already entered the last six months of his contract with the Bavarian giants, and Los Blancos want to sign the player for free in the summer transfer window of this year.
Real Madrid have offered €20 million per season (including a signing bonus) to Alphonso Davies
Christian Falk of Sport Bild, a very reliable transfer journalist for the Bundesliga, has reported that Florentino Perez will be ready to offer €20 million per season (including a signing bonus) to the Canadian in the upcoming days to agree on a pre-contract signing.
This proposal, if made, would be higher than what Bayern are ready to give Davies in their new contract. Falk has also reported that the representatives of Davies and Bayern are still in talks regarding a new deal for the Canadian, which will tie him to the club and fend off any interest from Madrid. He has also stated that the talks will continue till January 16, and there has been no agreement reached on the new salary of the left-back.
Meanwhile, Davies’ agents are reporting each and every discussion that they are having with Bayern. Madrid have stated that the €20 million per season offer will be the highest that they are willing to offer and won’t be engaging themselves in any bidding war with the Bavarian giants. Bayern’s offer is certainly less than the fee that Los Blancos are offering, but not very less. So, the final decision rests on Davies regarding the club that he wants to choose.
Real Madrid, however, are feeling that they are being misled by the agent of Davies. They still want to continue with their interest in the Canadian, but if somehow the deal does not go through, they will activate the buy-back option for Miguel Gutiérrez.
In the past, Bayern has had problems with Nick Huoseh (Davies’ agent), and even Madrid are encountering the same issues with his agent now. Bayern will be looking to get a speedy resolution to the contract situation of Davies before the expected wages go out of their hands.
Why does Real Madrid want Davies?
Davies is one of the fastest players in his position and can rejuvenate the left-back position of Los Blancos with his pace. Carlo Ancelotti’s side are struggling with that position given that Ferland Mendy is not that good offensively. Getting a player of the quality of Davies will alleviate the problems of Ancelotti’s side, and they can be more potent in attack as well as defence.
