Real Madrid lose appeal over Dean Huijsen red card – suspension stands
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Real Madrid were irate over the refereeing last weekend, after Dean Huijsen was dismissed for a last-man challenge, which Los Blancos felt was a poor judgement of the situation. After appealing the red card suspension twice, the feeling of aggrievement has not been alleviated at Valdebebas.

Los Blancos made their case to the Appeals Committee, but their arguments did not hold sufficient water in their eyes, prompting Real Madrid to take the matter to a higher court, in this case the Administrative Sports Tribunal (TAD). However as reported by Cadena SER, TAD have rejected their appeal, meaning that Huijsen will serve his one-game suspension against Espanyol on Saturday.

Controversy over CTA video ‘admitting error’

The controversy was already in place after the incident during the game, but after the Referees Committee (CTA) emitted their latest instalment of ‘Time to Review’, the ire at the Santiago Bernabeu only grew. During the video, the official explanation is that they feel that the more accurate decision would have been a yellow card. However they do note that the VAR was correct not to get involved, as the decision is a grey area, and open to the referee in question’s interpretation.

Dean Huijsen reacts to suspension

Real Madrid’s appeal to TAD was their final hope of lifting Huijsen’s ban, but after the Appeals Committee rejected their first appeal, Huijsen took to social media to make his malcontent clear. “The mistake is admitted, but I continue to be suspended. Good image for Spanish football,” resumed Huijsen over a longer post about the issue.

Real Madrid looking to take matters further

After the decision last weekend, it was revealed that Real Madrid are preparing a dossier on refereeing in Spain to highlight what they see as double standards targeting the 2024 La Liga champions. This of course is taking place with the backdrop of the Negreira case, where Barcelona are accused of sporting corruption.
