Real Madrid ‘monitoring’ Mainoo as Man Utd set deadline for

Real Madrid have reportedly emerged as a potential suitor for Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo. 

The 20-year-old has experienced a frustrating start to the new season, having been an unused subsitute in Man United’s opening two league games against Arsenal and Fulham.

The England international currently appears to be behind Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte in the battle for Ruben Amorim’s midfield spots. 

Having fallen down the pecking order, Mainoo is believed to be considering his future ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline.

Real Madrid join Mainoo race

According to the Daily Mail, Spanish giants Real Madrid are among the clubs weighing up a potential move for the Man United academy product. 

The report claims that Real Madrid are keeping tabs on Mainoo’s situation, along with their city rivals Atletico Madrid. 

The two Madrid clubs are believed to be interested in a loan move, although Man United will be reluctant to allow Mainoo to leave on a temporary basis.

The Red Devils are not actively looking to offload Mainoo, so they are only likely to consider sanctioning his departure if they receive an enticing offer for a permanent transfer. 

Man United set deadline for Mainoo decision

In another update, the Daily Mail are reporting that Man United will make a final decision on Mainoo’s future within the next 48 hours. 

There are believed to be up to 10 clubs interested in the Man United midfielder, who is open to joining a Champions League side before the transfer window slams shut. 

Mainoo and Man United have failed to make progress in contract negotiations, which has seemingly ‘exacerbated’ the player’s uncertain situation.

The youngster currently has a contract until the summer of 2027, with an option for the Red Devils to extend by a further 12 months.

It remains to be seen whether Mainoo will get the chance to make his first appearance of the season in Wednesday’s EFL Cup clash against Grimsby Town.
