Real Madrid are currently in the midst of a defensive injury crisis, although there will be relief that Eder Militao is not affected. The defender has had an awful two years, given that he ruptured the ACL is each of his knees only 15 months apart.
Militao did suffer a minor ankle blow a couple of weeks ago, but aside of that, he has been injury-free since returning from his second ACL injury. He has now returned to international football with Brazil, and as per Marca, he has spoken to the media on his recovery process, which he admitted was incredibly gruelling.
“With my second injury, I thought about quitting football. It’s not easy to go through all that. Thanks to (my family), and to my faith, today I am here, strong and ready to give it my all.
“It’s been two difficult years, with two very complicated injuries. The second one you face in a different way because you already know the process. It is not easy. You have to be very attached to your family, to God… It takes away your routine, what you’re used to doing, training. Suddenly, you’re at home, depending on help, on someone to help you. Thank God, I recovered from injuries and returned to the highest level, which is not easy.”
Real Madrid will need Militao to stay fit this season
Militao has been an important player for Real Madrid at the start of this season, especially given that Antonio Rudiger is currently ruled out with a long-term injury. He has developed a solid centre-back partnership alongside summer signing Dean Huijsen, and in order for Xabi Alonso’s side to be successful, they will need to be at their best throughout the campaign.
Real Madrid will be hoping that Militao comes through the international break unscathed, as they will need him for their next run of fixtures – which includes a certain El Clasico showdown later this month.
