The Spanish media are convinced that Espanyol goalkeeper Joan García will be moving to Arsenal this summer.
The 23-year old was linked heavily with a move to the Emirates last year, but ended up staying in Spain with Espanyol, where he has made a vital contribution in their fight to stay in La Liga, making over 100 saves in the current campaign.
Although he has been linked with a move to Atlético Madrid, Arsenal have maintained their interest and are ready to meet his ₤20 million release clause. New Sporting Director Andrea Beta’s Spnish connections should also help get the deal done.
The Gunners are in need of a new back-up goalkeeper. Although they signed Neto on loan from Bournemouth he is due to return to his parent club, and there are no suggestions he is capable of replacing David Raya as the club number one.
García by contrast has been identified as somebody who could be groomed for the role in the future.
