Sports Mole rounds up the latest transfer news, including Sunderland’s pursuit of a La Liga defender and a Championship move for a former Manchester United full-back.
Sunderland are reportedly closing in on the signing of Getafe defender Omar Alderete.
The 28-year-old made the move to his current club from Hertha Berlin in 2022, initially on loan, and he has represented the Spanish outfit on 99 occasions in all competitions.
Alderete was again an important player for Getafe last season, scoring once in 36 appearances, and he is believed to have attracted the attention of a number of clubs during this summer’s transfer window.
However, Sunderland appear to have won the race for his signature.
According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Sunderland have come to an agreement over a €12m (£10.4m) deal, but the fee will rise through add-ons.
The Paraguay international has allegedly already agreed personal terms with the Black Cats, and the expectation is that the deal will be completed in the near future.
Sunderland have already made nine signings during this summer’s transfer window, including a standout deal for former Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka.
Hull ‘win the race’ for former Man United defender Williams
Elsewhere, Hull City have allegedly won the race for former Manchester United defender Brandon Williams.
The 24-year-old was released by Man United in June 2024 after spending the second half of the 2023-24 campaign on loan with Ipswich Town in the Championship, and he has spent a year out of the game.
Besiktas have recently been linked with the left-back, but according to the Daily Mail, Williams has agreed to make the move to Championship outfit Hull.
The report claims that Williams is set to undergo a medical with Hull next week, and he could potentially be offered a contract until the end of the 2025-26 campaign with the option of a further 12 months.
The Englishman made 51 appearances for the 20-time English champions, progressing through the youth academy at the club before making his first outing for the first team in 2019.
Williams’ best campaign for Man United came in 2019-20, when he represented the Red Devils on 36 occasions, including 17 outings in the Premier League.
Everton ‘planning move’ for Championship defender
Meanwhile, Everton are reportedly lining up a move for Norwich City defender Kellen Fisher.
The 21-year-old was in impressive form for Norwich during the 2024-25 campaign, making 41 appearances in all competitions, including 38 outings in the Championship.
Fisher was only a late substitute in Norwich’s 2025-26 Championship opener against Millwall on Saturday, though, which ended in a 2-1 defeat for the Canaries.
According to Football Insider, Everton are interested in the Englishman, with Toffees head coach David Moyes an admirer of the right-back.
Fisher made 27 appearances for Bromley ahead of a switch to Norwich, and his versatility is believed to appeal to Everton, as he is capable of also featuring at left-back and in the middle of midfield.
Everton are planning a busy end to the summer transfer window, with Moyes’ side looking to add the five signings that they have made at this stage of proceedings.
