The England internationals who are looking to kickstart their careers away from the Premier League – Soccer News
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

With only a month until the 2025/26 Premier League campaign gets underway, all of England’s elite will be starting to get their preparations underway.

However, while there might be another gruelling domestic campaign fast approaching on the horizon, the 2026 World Cup is looming in the distance and Thomas Tuchel will already have his sights set on the United States.

Enduring what has been a frustrating start to life under the former Chelsea boss, it appears that Tuchel will already have a real squad dilemma on his hands come next summer.

Although the likes of skipper Harry Kane might already have their place nailed down, a number of England internationals are desperate to kickstart their careers ahead of next summer’s tournament.

In what is a make-or-break summer for many of the Three Lions’ biggest names, we have taken a look at some of the England aces who are looking to revive their careers away from the Premier League.

Jack Grealish – Manchester City

While there might have been plenty of excitement around the Etihad back in the summer of 2021 as Jack Grealish completed what was a record-breaking £100million switch from Aston Villa, the 29-year-old has largely failed to find his feet in the blue half of Manchester.

Despite securing three Premier League titles and featuring in Man City’s iconic European success back in 2023, Grealish has only notched 12 Premier League goals during his four-year stint.

Although Pep Guardiola might have been quick to publicly praise the ex-Villa skipper, Grealish was not included in City’s Club World Cup squad this summer and it has been made clear that he is not part of the former Barcelona bosses plans.

Only handed one-minute of Premier League action during City’s final five appearances of the 2024/25 campaign, the 39-cap international is set to be pushed out of the Etihad exit.

While newly-crowned Italian champions Napoli might not be able to match Grealish’s reported £300,000-per-week wages, Antonio Conte is a huge admirer of the makeshift City star and feels that Naples is the perfect place for the 29-year-old to kickstart his career.

‘Napoli have £45m to spend on either Jack Grealish or Alejandro Garnacho, but won’t take both of them’ 💼

Jadon Sancho – Manchester United

While Jadon Sancho might have been crowned a Europa Conference League winner with Chelsea back in May, the Blues passed on the opportunity to make the 25-year-old’s switch to west London a permanent one.

With Enzo Maresca’s side electing to pay a £5million penalty in order to send the former Borussia Dortmund ace back to Manchester United, it appears that Sancho’s return to Old Trafford will only be a brief stay.

Despite arriving at Old Trafford back in 2021 for what was a reported £73million with BVB, the one-time Manchester City youngster drastically failed to find his feet and has made it clear that he has no interest in reviving his United career.

Now entering the final year of his deal in Manchester, Ruben Amorim has no plans to bring Sancho back into the fold and it has been heavily suggested that the 23-cap international won’t even return for pre-season training.

While Napoli might have also previously been linked with a swoop for the wantaway United forward, it is Juventus who find themselves sat in the driving seat and Sancho has made a move to Turin his number one priority this summer.

Marcus Rashford – Manchester United

Spending the second-half of the 2024/25 campaign on loan at Aston Villa, Marcus Rashford finds himself in an almost identical position to Sancho and is in the midst of what has become an extremely messy divorce from his boyhood club.

At the heart of a public falling out with Amorim and making it clear that he has no intention of rebuilding any bridges at Old Trafford, the 27-year-old finds himself finds himself at a major career crossroads.

With the Villa hierarchy announcing last month that they will not be activating the £40million permeant clause, it appears that Rashford is desperate for a stint outside of the Premier League.

Watching Nico Williams complete a sensational U-turn last week as the Spanish international passed on a move to Barcelona, the reigning La Liga champions are now searching for alternative attacking reinforcements.

Linked with a move to Catalonia during the January transfer window, Rashford has not made it a secret that he is desperate to secure his long-awaited move to the Nou Camp and initial talks have taken place over the past few months.

A move for Luis Díaz is currently very unlikely, so Barca have reopened talks with Rashford.
